In that area they've trained their dogs to hide under their trailers when a patrol car approaches.

Alot of news coming out of the Houston Area, esp. the North H-Town area with similar cases. Maybe its just we more Houston mebers in the area posting. When I went to visit my few years back, my sister called saying someone was breaking into her house..I hauled as from the 610 loop then 45 north exiting at 1488 within 12-15 minutes was a reserve at the time and had cheap strobe... The deputies were curtious, one I chatted with real nice ending up sending him a path from the Dept I reserved for, dont have his info though been almost 7 years.

I saw the interview with these people on tv last night.  They seemed like decent, reasonable, trustworthy people.

The lady suffers from depression and she is frustrated that her insurance doesn't cover treatment.  She get her jaw broken by a juicing cop and you all call her crazy, FSA and trash.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Yep.

I have said this before. When you call the cops you are asking for one of a specific list of outcomes.

1. do nothing.

2. write a report.

3. write a ticket.

4. take someone to jail.

5. kick someones ass.

6. shoot someone.

If none of those options are the outcome you seek then call someone other than a police officer.

The only reason I have any contact with PD anymore unless they're on a seat belt crusade.  Paper trail for the win.

Perhaps if so many of us haven't had so many encounters with overbearing, pushy LEOs of questionable character, we wouldn't default to "the cop was wrong." as often as we do.

Sending uniformed officers on "welfare check"s is a stupid idea, and I can think of at least three or four instances in my memory where the cops actually killed the poor bastard and then denied any complicity or responsibility.  Hint: if you're going to agree to go on a welfare check, you don't get to claim that you have no responsibility for the welfare of the guy you're going to check on.  Particularly if you burn his house down around him or dump him in a "suicide watch" cell and then ignore him for three days.

Yeah, the large majority of cops do a pretty good job most of the time.  Congrats.  The thugs ruin it for the rest.  Such is life.  And the idea that the citizens are supposed to meekly submit because "cop" is leading us all down a bad road.

I'm a psychiatric nurse who does mental health evals in an ER on a daily basis. We serve a huge area and have TONS of folks with psych histories. Some come in voluntarily while others are brought by PDs/SOs/HP with a court order or application for 96-hr hold.

I can tell you from years of experience that people (with & without psych issues) are often impulsive, emotional creatures who sometimes act irrationally, illogically and recklessly. They say the wrong thing, which in particular circumstances puts them in contact with police or qualified mental health professionals.

I regularly encounter people who say what could be interpreted as suicidal/homicidal ideations. Saying all frustratedly to a receptionist at a doctor's office "this is why people commit suicide!" just after you'd said you needed help with depression could make a reasonable person suspect that individual could be a danger to themselves. Often, when LE haul this person to the ER, the person is understandably pissed. Dealing with their anger, frustration and their feeling of being accused takes a very patient, sympathetic/empathetic listener. It's not for everyone - very few of my fellow RNs can do this well - and I'd venture to guess many cops can't either. I've deescalated many situations by not taking what people say personally and remaining professional. Let them vent, listen to them, wait a little, don't be all judgmental, etc.

We occasionally discharge folks from our ER who we've determined aren't dangerous to themselves and/or others that have 96-hr paperwork from LE. Sometimes things aren't as they appear.

That said, I can't tell you how often folks who are completely jacked up one minute appear perfectly fine a day or sometimes hours later. The cop could've done it by the book - I only have her side of the story. Or he could be a JBT.

I find the way the husband and wife tell this, who are trying to make a pay come come from this, to be very truthful and easy to believe. This is clearly the only side of the story. News reporters always do a good job of being objective and not making story out to be sensational.

It's a good thought, but not likely to happen. Our local stations almost never follow-up on small news stories like this one. There have been more than a few that I tried to find additional information on with no luck.

Anyway, this is GD. Throw caution to the wind and enlighten us with your half-guesses and unfounded assumptions.

That one is so overused. Have you ever 'seen red' btw? Most people think it's a metaphor. It's not. You actually have a red, blurry mask over your eyes and when it goes away you're shocked or at least surprised by what you see. Badges and uniforms don't show through. Only happened to me twice in my life. Nothing irreversible happened, but it was scary as shit to come around.
