I had a dozen last Friday night at Seaworthy in downtown NOLA.
Tried a bunch of different oysters from all over. The ones from Murder Point AL had the best flavor. |

Not anymore.
The last three times I ate oysters or something with oysters in it I have gotten violently ill.[img]/images/smilies/icon_smile_dead.gif[/I'll. |

Haven’t heard of that place in a long time, but that company happened to use the name instead of being located there. Unless something has changed, there was only house ever built there and you’re getting there only by boat. A friend of mine’s grandfather heard the deathbed confession of the guy who lived there who had committed a murder and hid the body under some corrugated tin years earlier. After the guy died, his grandfather boated out there and found a skeleton under some tin where the man told him it was. A man from Maryland traveled out there in the 1920s looking for some marsh land to farm terrapins and ended up becoming the victim. That area of marsh didn’t have a name until my friend’s grandfather found the bones. |

What’s the weird connection between raw oysters and sexuality? Like I’ve heard and read it’s like an aphrodesiac. What’s the deal?

No thanks. I try to avoid eating things that have the same consistency as a bad sinus infection. |

Nah, that's been going around a loooot longer than that. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/are-oysters-aphrodisiac-180962148/ Oysters have been a reputed aphrodisiac at least since the Roman Empire, and supposedly were regularly enjoyed as a virility-booster by Giacomo Girolamo Casanova. An enlightenment era polymath who lived from 1725 to 1798, Casanova became best known for having seduced more than 100 women, described at length in his memoir. |

I was given a plate of something like 8 different kinds of raw oyster. I couldn't taste the difference if you put a gun to my head. They were all like taking a shot of saltwater followed by chewing on a balloon.
Never tried them cooked. |
