I was at a seafood joint the other day and saw two different people biting the shrimp and then piling up the tails on their plates. When did this shit start? The shells won't hurt you. They're actually good for you. Plus, you don't waste any tail meat. I had a buddy who used to eat the heads, crunchy eyeballs and all.

WTF, OP.
I squeeze out the meat left in the tails when I BITE OFF THE TAILS. |

No.
But if you do it right you can pull the meat out of the little tail part. FWIW, my dogs utterly love shrimp tails. |

my daughter eats the tails. I think she originally did it for attention but just likes them now.

WTF???
Hold the tail and pull out the tiny piece of meat with your teeth. No way I am crunching a tail. |

If they're leaving tail meat then they're eating them wrong.
You're also eating them wrong if you feel the need to eat the tails to ensure you don't leave any tail meat behind. |

Fuck no. I eat the tail meat without the shell. Just squeeze it right out.

I sometimes will if I am eating a dish where they are covered in sauce and I don't want to deal with the mess of pinching the tail off I will just eat the whole thing, but stuff like shrimp cocktail and just plain boiled shrimp dishes, I remove the tail. until a year ago I didn't even know they were edible until I saw my POS BIL eat his.

They're the same stuff as fingernails, aren't they? |

I do eat fried catfish tails, though. Learned that one from my mom. They're like a catfish-flavored cracker.

When I was about 5 years old we got together for a big family dinner out at a restaurant. They put a huge plate of shrimp down in front of me and promptly forgot I was there as they returned to their conversation. About 15 minutes later somebody figured out there weren't any more shrimp nor were there any tails left on my plate and there was a minor freak out. I was no worse for wear though.
ETA: I haven't eaten any tails since then though. |

Quoted: I watched some show about gulf coast shrimping, and the local they were talking to said the locals eat the shell and all on gulf coast shrimp. It's because the shell is thin enough almost like a softshell crab I suppose. View Quote |
