I have been piling up shrimp tails since I was a kid the 80s OP. I've never seen anyone eat a shrimp tail on purpose.

I’m pretty sure the shells are made from keratin, like fingernails. There’s no nutritional value and I can’t imagine that’s good on the way out.

I do all the time. The wife and kids think its disgusting.
I went to a hibachi many years ago with some real life Japanese guys. They put the tails on the grill and got them extra crispy. They were downing sapporos and popping the tails back like we would do peanuts at a bar. I tried it and liked it so i continue to this day doing it. |
