View Quote I've not seen rem & stimpy, in my childhood there was Tom & Jerry, Road Runner & Wile E Coyote, Bugs Bunny & Crew - mostly slapstick type humor with a few adult gags thrown in; maybe some Super Friends on Saturday morning. But you can tell a programs targeted audience by the commercials they show during it. When you're watching the cartoon are you seeing advertisements for toys, hair braids, or something similar or do you see ads for vacuum cleaners, automobiles, or personal injury lawyers? Thanks for the info on the statues/action figures - do those Japanese type 'porn' graphic novels fall into the 'teenage boy' market or are they indeed marketed for adults? |

I feel dirty for pulling this up on google, but here goes. The majority of those are created in Japan. In Japan, the age of consent is 13 and age of majority is 20. So I'd say they are meant for children considering the age disparity. |

Personally, I lean towards "think what you want, but I might tell you off if you get on me about it" Pretty much someone's business is their own. Pretty much the philosophy I subscribe to. Like I said earlier, do what you want but if you admit to something outside of the societal norms (watching little girls tv shows) expect ribbing (or at least in some cases in this thread) worse. So long as its legal, people should be able to do whatever in their homes without repercussions. Agreed if those 'repercussions' are legal. As an example I don't think if you want to wife swap you should be arrested - but don't expect all your friends to remain friends if they find out. Considering I know that someone will throw it back at me, key words were LEGAL and OWN HOME. So no, pedos are still going to jail. Gays can be gay, furries can fur, and that one guy that likes to dress up in a latex balloon costume can as far as I'm concerned. Just stay out of my home with it. BINGO! Kind of like the whole satanism thread the other day. I missed that one. If one religion can donate a monument of their religious laws to a courthouse, why shouldn't another religion be allowed it? All or none. Because the laws cited on the monument are considered to be a foundation of Western legal systems? I know of know Satanic or Pagan laws that were used when setting up this country. |

That said I am glad you have your faith if it is important to you and won't put you down for something I think is retarded. Being a believer however, how do you balance your belief in the word of god with your actions, are you free from sin? Matthew 7:1-3 John 8:7 You may not have cast the first, but you are still throwing. In the UK they show tits on prime time, here its verboten, Whos right? Alread asked and answered In the UK they show tits on prime time, here its verboten, Whos right? In their society that is the norm, here it's not. We can argue who is right and wrong all day. Fact is it's not "Normal' here in the US. Not that long ago if a man wanted to be a nurse he was ridiculed for doing "girls" work and a lot of people would have refused to let woman Dr. treat them, are modern male nurses and female Dr's to be made fun of as not normal? It wasn't then - it is now. Society and norms do change. But ranting how your 'out of norm' behavior isn't approved of strikes me as a bit childish - particularly when the behavior in question concerns a child's tv show. Want to get into what is normal or not? Look at the guys that get ridiculed for watching/playing soccer (a normal sport the world over) by people who only watch American Football. Yet this is considered 'normal' here. At one time the mentally ill were sent to asylums and treated horribly because they were not normal. The fact is the mentally ill were not 'normal' they were mentally ill. The fact they were treated poorly is a stain on the mental health professionals at the time, not the fact they were put in asylums. What about when it was "normal" to own black people like farm equipment? Whats normal for you (religion) is abnormal and strange to me. So again I ask, who gets to decide what is normal, you, me, society, and who gets to decide which society is "right" ours, the Germans, the French, The Aborigines? The fact is unless you live in France, Germany or the Outback their 'norms' don't count. Where you live and your citizens define 'normal'. Note 'Normal' is not the same as 'moral', it is possible to have immoral norms and it's common for 'normal' to change over time in the same society. (look at gay marriage - agree with it or not it's clear it's become more 'acceptable' and 'normal' in our society). |

View Quote Methinks you have too much invested in a culture that is constantly changing. Live your life, let others do the same. Unless I'm fucking your daughter, chasing your family with a chainsaw or doing anything that personally effects you, what does it matter? Societies change, groups rise and fall in popularity, some things go in and out of fashion. The world is in constant flux. Adapt and overcome. To be brutally honest, the next 25 years or so (barring the US self destructing) are going to define the word human. We are on the cusp of destroying life altering disabilities and curing a great many diseases. Be the cures genetically modified, grown, or implanted. A few years ago, there as an article I was reading about how a group of scientists managed to create a connection that allows the brain to access things over modern hardware. With some work that can extend to naturally used robotic limbs, external memory storage, etc. Let alone that with the advances in quantum computing, nanotech is a short while away, with all its advantages and compromises. At what point does the term human cease to apply? What will it need to be redefined as? The world is changing faster than most people know, and in the end the only solace most will find is with their families. Personally, I'll openly embrace transhumanism. *shrug* To each their own. ETA: Hell, some nanotech is in human trials for disease cures right now. |
