Trolling and time for a ban.

Eotech is owned by L3. L3 is picking up the tab.

L3 is the type of company that could swallow up eotech if it ever ran out of money and not bat an eyelash.

Yep.

FWIW, according to the court documents, Eotech cannot file bankruptcy within 90 days of the ruling because they declared themselves as solvent.  After 91 days it seems they can.

However, I'm not a lawyer, and the lawsuit was Eotech vs gov, not Eotech vs arfcom

So what's the time limit on this? I have a few Eotech's but won't be back in the states for probably another 6 months. Maybe I should keep one of them and in like 50-60 years it will be like a 1933 Gold Eagle, rare and uber valuable

This really sucks! I LIKE the darn Eotech! I prefer the Eotech style over "tube" style red dots.
That is my personal preference and I realize everyone does not agree.

Now, I have to decide to get rid of sights that I like because they "might" be defective.

imho you should dump them all now while you can still get purchase price for them.

once they close the refund period im guessing you'll be able to buy the bought back ones for hella cheap. Buy them then and you'll have made money on the deal

Yeah. I'm going to remain cautiously skeptical until the first person reports getting a check.

It took eotech 4 months to send out my $60 rebate they had as a promo awhile back. This might take a year boys

I wouldn't assume that.  None of us know how the legal entities are set up and what kind of guarantees L3 has agreed to,

Understood. The thing is L3 IS Eotech. These were not two separate companies that at one point came together. L3 gave birth to Eotech and Eotech is a Branch of L3. A DBA of sorts. They are protected from certain things being a separate company (tax sheltering, liability). But if Eotech suddenly said "lol screw you private citizens" then L3 would need to bend over and grab the lube ( you have to understand that local and state LE are also returning their Eotechs at this time as well). Our local agency just sent 65 back. What's gonna happen when they say "sorry all you local agencies....we just screwed you out of $20k+ by lying to you".

People worry about something bad happening once they send it in. It will be ok.

Because of this. I think it will take years for some to see refunds.

Has anyone found their Eotech to not have a date stamp? I have three, two of them have the serial number/bar code and the date stamp, this one only has the serial number/bar code. It's a 517 if that matters.

Rebates are often farmed out to other companies that deal with promotions, rebates often take forever. Anyone know a way to test this? I put my 512 in the freezer for four hours and besides the condensation on the outer surfaces the co witness looks gtg. I picked this over an Aimpoint because I liked the reticle and it hasn't given me any problems to date. If I return this for the $450 and now have to add $250-300 for an Aimpoint plus a mount, and that's if and when I get a refund. I already have my approval but I'm getting cold feet.

Be sure to check the black sticker.  It is written like  "November 2005"

From my understanding, the problem is that if you keep it, you will most likely have a $450 paper weight eventually.  It may not be for 10 years, but it could also die tomorrow.  Eotech admittedly sold a product that had inherent design flaws for years.  Maybe yours will work fine forever, maybe it will last you 2 years, and maybe in 2 years Eotech will no longer exist due to this and you will not be able to get it serviced.

Those were my concerns, and why I decided to unload while they're offering refunds.

There's nothing to test, the people who made the damn thing have essentially told you there's an almost 100% chance the Eotech you own is defective in more ways than one.

It's of course your optic, so do what you like, but don't try and convince yourself that your unit is fine.  It's been written in plain English, by the manufacturer, that it is almost certainly not.

Thank you for contacting EOTech.   In order to process your refund request we will need you to supply the amount you are requesting.   Also, the place of purchase and a receipt, if available.  Please attach it to this existing request and forward it back to complete this request so we may proceed in reviewing your request.

I just went to the eotech return page and filled it out. What I didn't do was include the amount I wanted, but they asked me to complete it in the email and reply back with the completed form, which I did already. I was approved on the 14th.

I'd rather get a box with my eotech in it with a hand written "fuck you", than wait, see other people get their checks, send it in, then eotech goes tits up.

But yes, this is completely bizarre.  I imagine there's no PR because they're trying to save their name and reputation.

Exactly, it just says it has been approved.
I would feel more comfortable if it read " your refund request for $XXX.XX has been approved and your confermation # is ----------".
Something about it just doesn't feel right.

$800+ in the balance for my two Eos isn't a funny/joking matter for me.

I submitted the info on the return/repair form yesterday afternoon but haven't got a reply yet.  At some point will they get overwhelmed in the rush for refunds so who knows how long this will take.

Over a year I bet

Doubt it will take that long. I would imagine checks will begin rolling out some time in January.

I don't know how product liability works with subsidiaries so I'm not going to comment on that, but the first part of your statement is not correct.   L-3 did NOT give birth to Eotech, Eotech has been around since about 1995.  L-3 Purchased them in 2005.

It took them over 4 months to send out a $60 sales rebate. I bet there are 1000s more doing this return then the rebate.

Rebate =/= refund

But they may be overwhelmed.

Exactly, it just says it has been approved.
I would feel more comfortable if it read " your refund request for $XXX.XX has been approved and your confermation # is ----------".
Something about it just doesn't feel right.

I wonder what's a good estimate on the total number of sights they'll receive before this is over.
They must have a metric shit ton of them by now .

I can't even fathom a guess; here's why....

They have never once made any of this "official" or public.  Hundreds of us are sending in eotechs based on one fucking email sent to one guy.

No, I sent mine in based on an emailed response from a company respresentative.

ETA - This email is explicit that "Your refund request has been received and approved."

A confirmation number makes it much more legit?

A confirmation number and/or RMA# would give us hopes there's actual systems in place to help them keep their shit together.

RMA # tracked via software vs paper stuffed in a box

Serial #? I know that's an assumption, but so is assuming they're not using anything to track this whole shindig. Simple fact is you either trust the company to make good on what their representative stated or you don't, going back and forth wringing your hands about the possible outcomes is pointless.
