Because of this thread I bought Lonesome Dove on Blu-ray off Amazon and watched it in a few nights after my wife and toddler went to sleep. You guys were right, it was amazing.

I loved John Wayne, but that was one of the worst movies ever.

One Hollywood cliche after another. Scripted dialogue was dull and predictable.

Tried to be hip about being hip when Hollywood was incapable of being hip.

Artificial lighting was artificial.

James Caan sucked.

There were hundreds of westerns better than this.

Not quite . Actually central Mohawk Valley and eastern Champlain and Hudson Valley is where the history took place . I believe N. Carolina is where is was filmed .
