For those that say it ain't the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog...
it really sucks for you when he's the bigger dog and has bigger fight. Weight classes exist for a reason. |

Quoted: I think that's an unwritten rule of dealership life View Quote Was talking to an older guy about a Sea Doo , worked a deal and started paperwork. Unknown to me another salesman was talking to the son , but dad was the one with money. I ended up letting the other salesman have the commission on the trailer for the PWC to avoid an issue IIRC commission on that was like $10 and it tanked his average sale price but he wanted it |

Quoted: I know of a GSM that went through a Mexican restaurant drive-thru while drunk. Lady forgot his sour cream and so he pulled a gun on her. Made the local news stations. He was fired and rehired 30 days later because "he's a really good sales manager" View Quote If he performs well at his job and is valuable asset to his employer why should he necessarily get fired for being a dumbass off the clock? Criminal behavior while on the job is a different story. |

Criminal behavior while on the job is a different story. Dealerships spend heavily on advertising. When GSM comes out to close a deal and customers recognize him as the guy from the news, that's not a good look. "Look, you're a really great Sales Manager, so we're gonna bring you back. But you've got to wear a wig and a dress from now on." |

Dealerships are full of vile and broken people.
Ex worked at a Toyota dealership, most of the people were all fucked up, one dude OD'd on cocaine on the showroom floor. The owner was nuts, drank Crown Royal all day and carried a backpack full of pistols. Service Department was good though. The place was a complete shit show, for years after I couldn't see one of their billboards w/o getting a brief case of C-PTSD. There were fights, but never in the show room. |

Quoted: I sold cars for a short time in the 90's crazy things go on after hours. Sometimes during business hours. Drugs hookers, fights, fucking. View Quote People have no idea how nuts the car sales world is. When I was working corporate IT, our dealer principal had the company jet go to Vegas, pick up a bunch of Same DP was banging underage girls all the time. Provided college girls vehicles in exchange for weekly visits to his office. Saw a salesman throw another through a plate glass window over half a sale. Neither got fired. Plenty of scuffles over sales and ups. |

Quoted: Probably fighting over the lack on inventory on-site. Toyota, unlike GMC, Ford & Dodge/Ram, sells their inventory before it is on-site. While GMC, Ford & Dodge/Ram are still insanely marking up their products and even reducing production (GMC), Toyota is not doing either. Yes, they mark up a bit, but not to the insane levels of U.S. manufacturers. Also keeping production rolling. There was nothing on-site of my local Toyota dealership a couple of weeks ago, but U.S. maker dealerships had quite a bit of inventory on hand. View Quote Some of my current IT clients are car dealer groups. They LOVE the current 'low inventory' situation and say they will never go back. Saves on floorplan, insurance, lot space, many areas of expense. It also puts them more in control of pricing since they are intentionally maintaining low perceived supply. They want to sell mostly customer spec order vehicles and just maintain a handful of demos on premises. |

Quoted: It really depends on how much they are making the company. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: It's 50/50 whether either one of them will get fired.. going hands on with a customer is a sure way of getting shitcanned Our shop did accessories for many car dealers. We had a customer that was charged close to $1k for what should have been about a $350 service ticket for a cassette receiver. This customer went to our shops retail facility to have words with our salesman. It took several large gents to hold him back. He didn't realize that it was his car salesman that fucked him. When he finally grasped that, he was back to the car dealership looking for his pound of flesh. |
