They act like Jon Snow was this great character. On paper maybe but onscreen he was nothing special and kind of boring. IMO he was portrayed as kind of a muppet.

I am really not impressed with HotD so far. I am not saying it sucks but no way is it epic. For all you guys pretending it is and making excuses for it - please go back and re-watch the first four episodes (five after tonight's airs) of GoT and tell me how they compare.

3. Bran not having heirs wouldn't matter.  After Sansa publicly announced her brother's dick doesn't work (no idea how she'd know that) they decided to have the high lords "vote" on the next king despite the fact it would almost certainly lead to war.

The structure was a clumsy attempt to recreate the Holy Roman Empire, where the six most powerful lords did vote on who became the next emperor.  The problem really comes from putting Bran on the throne while simultaneously allowing the North to go independent.  You have a king with no support among the lords and no chance to forge alliances through marriage.  What would actually happen is you'd cut political deals to select the next king.  Lannister would marry Tyrell and promise the Martells Hand of the King, or something like that.

Not a chance in hell that happens without war.  If the people that ruled when the series started were still ruling then maybe, but not now.

The biggest problem is, as you and I have previously discussed, Bronn.

I admit that the idea of the remnants of GoT wiping each other out until the last standing wins a Pyrrhic victory does sound cathartic.  However, they just don't have the budget for that.  Plus even if they did they'd never write it that way.

I forgot about Bronn.

I mean, I'm not asking D&D to be historians, but could they at least have done a playthrough or two of one of the Crusader Kings series?

4 wives, 36 assassinations, two entire family trees extinguished and after the murder of 6 kids that had my last name later, I finally had a court comprised of my legitimate children.

Another shit episode IMO. Robert Baratheon's line sums up this show so far - "And that's all the realm is now: back-stabbing and scheming and arse-licking and money-rubbing."

I am not looking for every episode to be like Michael Bay directed it like some moron here said earlier. I am looking for good material.

I am going to say it again. Go back and re-watch the first five episodes of GoT and compare it to this.

JFC even the abbreviation of the show - HotD is short for Hot Dick.

I didn't think it was that bad. I keep hoping these first 5 were necessary to get to the real meat of the show.

I think, though, it's just never going to measure up to the original and my expectations may be too high.

i like the show. not as good as GOT though.

what HBO should have done was pick up another book series in the same genre. abercrombie's shattered sea series would have been a very good choice as would the first law series. both series have very interesting characters and good stories. you need both, along with spending the money to make it right, along with throwing in a few veteran actors to get a series off the ground in a big way.

“The sour taste of season eight of Game of Thrones may have had a lot to do with HBO failing to attract its previous audience.”

“The adaptation of source material to create a prequel series may have been a noble one, but as many fans have pointed out, ‘all roads lead to Bran the Broken.’”

The numbers in there are almost meaningless, due to this little tidbit: "for a total of 1.75 million, not counting HBO Max."

According to AT&T, HBO and HBO Max had a combined total of 69.4 million paying subscribers globally on June 30, 2021, including 43.5 million HBO Max subscribers in the U.S.
They're only counting people with traditional cable or satellite HBO subscriptions, which doesn't count 2/3 of HBO subscribers.

I'll probably be mocked for the suggestion , but I'd like to see the Codex Alera made into a series. It's not the greatest piece of writing ever, but I'd like to see it on screen if it has a good vfx budget.

ETA: I'll have to look at my bookshelf when I get home, to see what other fantasy series I have. I read a lot of books on my deployments, which is easy when you can read at about 400 pages a day.

I always thought First Law would have made an awesome movie or mini-series.  I imagined Gerard Butler as Logen Nine-Fingers but I guess he's aged out at this point.

I also saw Alan Rickman as San de Glokta but he daid now.

Yes, it really did but the dissimilarity was kinda striking, from Rhaenmanyra to someone way more mature and normal looking.

And where did Daemon's wife come from?  Was she in the last episode (E05)?  I guess she daid now, right?

She's the sister of Laenor (Rhaenyra's gay husband), and was flirting with Daemon at the wedding party in the last episode.
