Quoted: Box Hockey. Used to be in pretty much every park/playground in my part of the state when I was a kid back in the 70's. Apparently it was pretty popular way back in the day, from the early 1900's to the 1070's. Looks like they still make them but they are not metal now. Ours were metal, and our "Hockey Sticks" were metal too, at my local park. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/79948/box-2065467.jpg https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/79948/Box_Hockey_L-2065474.jpg View Quote |

Marbles and kick the can.
My personal favorite sword fighting with sticks and pine cone fights. I grew up in a apartment area surrounded buy the woods. Kids in my hood knew how to have fun. |

Since the kids don't actually go outside to play anymore (they don't schedule them enough time for recess), no wonder most of the game listed for outside play have disappeared.

Kiss-a-Wench. . . I suggested this years ago when my wife was in the PTA, and they were trying to come up with fund raising ideas.

Quoted: The 80s rocked!! View Quote They sure did. I remember playing tetherball, shuffleboard, horseshoes and smear the queer in the 80s. Good times! I also remember square dancing at PE. Growing up, I had a neighbor who set up horseshoe pits next to their swimming pool. When they had pool parties in the summer, we would always play a few games. I got pretty good at horseshoes too! |

Man, Y'all are bringing back some good memories...
Loved dodgeball and kickball in school. Played shuffleboard and darts (steel tip/cork board) at the Legion growing up. Flashlight tag, Cowboys & Indians (cowboy used a stick as a gun and threw a rock as the bullet...Indian threw a stick as the arrow) Croquet and lawn darts at my grandparents house in the backyard...volleyball and badminton at my aunts. And I have a horseshoe pit in the backyard. Hasn't been used in years though |

House in the neighborhood I grew up in had a permanent croquet court.
It was very nicely done. Probably built in the late 40s, early 50s... |

I'll go with horseshoes also.
My dad loved horseshoes. He died in 1986. As the patriarch of the family now I was asked what dad would have thought about playing corn hole as the new game at family gatherings. I told them he would have said... " Corn hole seems like a game fags would play" " What the f..ck is wrong with you pussies?" "You can't throw a couple pounds of steel a few feet?" "Are you afraid to get your hands dirty?" "Bean bags is something your mother would let you play with so you didn't hurt yourself" My daughter bought trophy's to celebrate Eddie's annual whatever game. We settled on "Grandpa Eds throw shit for accuracy awards" This family knows how to compromise. |
