So my question is, what can we do to keep guns out of the hands of criminals?
With all the people on AR15.com we must be able to come up with a plan that we could bring to our elected officials that may help the growing gun violence problem. I, like most of you, don’t want to be finger printed or back round checked anymore. Some people feel this is an invasion of their privacy. I’m not sure I have an opinion on these kinds of practices but giving any of my personal information out seems to me like a bad idea. Just so you know, I am a 30 something white guy with a wife and 2 young kids. I’m a hard working, gun loving, tax paying, family man who does run to his gun and bible when the shit gets bad. So let’s do this, let’s get some ideas together for a plan that we would stand behind, because if we don’t do something the elected officials may try and put together a plan of their own and I know none of you want any part of that. zimpete |

Any law that preemptively addresses an act invariably leads to abuse of power and denial of rights.
The basic solution to criminals and guns is simple.....criminals that use firearms for violence should be removed from society permanently....by any means that society feels is justified. That could be death, incarceration or exile.....if someone is walking our streets that should not be allowed to own a gun due to criminal inclinations that person should not be walking our streets.... EVER. |

Won't work, there will always be a black market for illegal firearms. Just look at what happened to the UK and Australia. A better, more practical solution would be to keep repeat offenders off the streets, which a certain politician didn't do recently!

What they should do is make it a crime to use a gun in a crime. They should also make it illegal for anybody convicted of a felony to own a firearm. That would make sure that there are no guns used in crimes and that criminals could not have guns.
While they are at it, they should make murder a crime, as well as theft. |
|
All the gun control that is necessary is right there in the 2nd Amendment. Everything else is feel-good bullshit.
|
|
Simple answer. You cant.
If you cant keep guns and drugs out of prison, the most controlled place on this planet (and you cant, ask any guard), what makes you think you can keep them out of the hands of criminals anywhere? The better answer is arm yourself. |
|
The worlds a scary place. Always has been and always will be. All you can do is try to be prepared for the worst. Even then shit happens.

Zimpete,
All the catch phrases you wrote in your original post read like someone from an anti-gun camp. People who value the second amendment don't usually use clichés like "growing gun violence problem." I view you with distrust. |

Criminals shouldn't have guns obviously so; why take away everyones guns why don't we take away everyones criminals... |

We should focus on eliminating the reasons and motives for using these guns for crime, instead of foolishly focusing on the guns.
|
|
The government should give us quality safes to prevent theft. As an "We are sorry for bailing out banks" apology gift.
|
|
Getting guns off the street is like dividing by zero...
Impossible. |

I feel the need to remind DU trolls that Detroit isn't a shithole because of a gun problem. More like a shitbag problem.

There is no proof that can possibly show that guns, or even access to guns makes people do bad things. The guns aren't the problem, more laws won't fix the problem. Removing the killers and spoilers from our society, that fixes it. |

Execute murderers, muggers, robbers, rapists, and gang members. Deport illegal aliens and prevent them from entering. Nationwide CCW and open carry, no license.
There, problem solved. |

Rest assured, my suspicious friend; If ever a day comes in which I find guns in the street, they will be promptly given a safe home, post haste!

For one, you could accept the fact that gun control only affects those willing to obey the law. |
|
In my opinion the problem of violence will never end or really even slow down until (and this will never happen until after this world is over) our government says that it's no longer acceptable to commit armed robbery, rape, kidnap, or murder and if you're convicted of one of these crimes YOU WILL IMMEDIATELY BE EXECUTED in a cheap and efficient way. After a week of people getting the clue, and realized this is for real, those types of crimes would taper off.
In addition anyone who can get their hands on any weapons they want and use them too. But if your negligence or ill will harms someone else, severe punishment.

If all the anti-gun people would just become pro-gun and carry everywhere and don't have the stupid gun free zones then the criminals would be outgunned everywhere and then having a gun wouldn't give the criminal any power. An armed society is a polite society You can never get guns off the streets, if it exists then criminals can get it plain pure and simple. But what we can do is carry a gun and shoot back.
|
|
Can't be done.
It's not the answer you want to hear, but it is the truth. The sooner we as a society realize this, the better. The world is not a TV cartoon utopia. |

Criminals will be criminals. That's why they are criminals and that's why if every law abiding citizen turned in every one of their guns there would still be guns in the hands of criminals. The best way to deter this is to strictly punish those who unlawfully use weapons for crime. If no one is killed in the crime then imprisonment in a remote prison camp with HARD labor involved. If someone was killed, and the suspect proven guilty, then death that day.
The problem with the prison system, for ALL crimes, is the punishment is quite light. Imprisonment, while unpleasant, is still shelter, food, recreation, and usually with no real work or punishment. They get much of the day to practically do whatever they want and hot meals all day. You add guaranteed HARD back breaking labor to it with very little personal freedom, I.E. REAL punishment, you would have more people reluctant to break laws. |

Is it safe to list all the guns I own on this site? I will if you think it's safe. Owning a firearm and a box of cartridges does not make you "one of us". |

How can you help keep guns off the streets?
Buy as many for yourself as you can! |
|
Lets go to gun buy backs and cherry pick what people are planning to turn in. I wish they had buy backs here in Seattle, but so far as I can see there has only been like ONE years ago. I wan't a gold plated .45 for $50!!!

If the criminals don't have guns, they just kill cops and take their guns. It has nothing to do with "straw purchases" or the "gun show loophole" (whatever the fuck that is). Criminals will ALWAYS have guns, even if law abiding citizens do not. |

Well, I got called out so here goes.
My first gun was a Marlin 22 given to me by my Grandpa, still have the gun and will pass it on to my oldest son. I get my CCW last January and now carry either a Kimber CDP .45 1911 or a Kahr CW40, depends on the weather and what I'm wearing. I go the the local rifle range once a month to let go of some stress. I pheasant hunt, I used to deer hunt and I try to coyote hunt. My favorite guns are my Armalite AR10, Kimber 1911 and S&W M&P .45 compact. My last gun purchased was a unfired Norinco Underfolder Ak, I paid $800.00 out the door, may have been too much but it was a gun I have been looking for for a long time. Hope this helps. |
