Quoted: I'd eat that, sounds pretty delish I was a little sad that I didn't get beef when I was in India. There are muslim places you can get some really Indian food with beef instead of whatever, because they don't have the same view of cows as hindu's even though they are indian themselves. I heard it was off the chain good but we didn't end up making it to any of those places View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Fried up a quart of pork lo mein I got Saturday , I swear that stuff is better fried a couple days after you get . https://media.giphy.com/media/RAzog1xwl9KdguxtvU/giphy.gif Chinee leftovers are good, had Indian leftovers tonight, they were good too. Imma make Indian chili tonight. I'm interested to try it out. It has beef in it, which isn't acceptable in many places in India, but I'm rolling with it. Cumin, chilis, mustard, onions, coconut, ginger, garlic, curry leaves, ground coriander, turmeric, Garam masala, tomatoes, coconut milk, and cilantro. I was a little sad that I didn't get beef when I was in India. I heard it was off the chain good but we didn't end up making it to any of those places This ended up being a sort of Mexican/Indian fusion thing which was pretty good, but not on the menu if I’m craving chili. It was just different enough to not hit the button for a chili fix, but still really good. Will make again, just not when I’m craving chili. |

View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Wife's work trip just got shortened by a day Now she flies 15 hours, sleeps, has a day of meetings, then flies 15 hours to get home. It got shortened because she has to get back to present to the CEO and the executive team the next morning...... UAE, 14:15 in the air to get there 14:30 to get back. I was pretty meh about UAE. Interesting history but too artificial for me |

At least with the Ruger PC9, I can use glawk or SR series mags with it. And, once I finally get the P80's done, I can choose to accessorize with either pistol.

Quoted: @MarkNH A trained protection dog is a masterpiece and can do a whole lot, but it’s very common that they only act under command. When you have an bite-trained dog, you don’t want it making decisions on its own for the most part. Your wife would have to train with the dog on a regular basis (because that’s not just a “trained and done” skill set; it requires regular practice), and would need to be willing to pull the figurative trigger. And yes, your wife would have to be a regular participant in training if the dog is expected to obey her. She would have to set aside time each week to actively participate in training, even if you do the lion’s share of it. Absent that level of training, you’re looking at more instinctive protectors. They are more autonomous and need less actual direction, but are also less likely to actually bite and more likely to react to something you may not want them to react to. Both can be addressed via training, but bite training a more instinctual breed can cause issues because they will on occasion act autonomously and that can cause problems. With good socialization, they are usually able to do a great job distinguishing friend from foe, but there’s always the chance that they may not react well to a particular guest. It’s important to remember that without formal bite training and a will to persist in the face of opposition, most dogs won’t actually bite an intruder. They’ll bay them up and put on a very good show of things, but when push comes to shove, they won’t bite and sustain an attack. I hope that makes a little sense vis a vis choosing a trained dog vs an instinctual dog and what you can expect from them. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Wife is starting to ask (unprompted) if we should get a well trained protection dog to guard the house and kids........ I haven't told her yet what one of those costs...... I think blkvoodoo said he charges around $25k for a turnkey dog I'd seen a lot higher than that but that is probably more intensive/specialized training that we may or may not need (I don't know enough to make that call). Seems like she wants: 1) protective of the kids 2) free range of the house 3) knows the difference between a friend we are allowing into the house and an intruder That last one is going to be a sticky wicket. Some dogs do that instinctually very well, others with extensive training, and most not at all. The big thing is what you want it to do when it determines someone shouldn’t be there and whether you want it to act on its own or only under direction. We’re getting a Boerboel for that purpose, but we also have a lot of experience with protective-type dogs. You probably wouldn’t go wrong getting a dog from someone like blkvoodoo, though. But if you like the idea of a Boerboel, there’s an excellent breeder just up the road from you. I understand your point (and appreciate the cricket reference ). I would like a dog that is calm and friendly outside the house unless someone is aggressive or puts their hands on my kids, in the house/yard (pack territory) ideally I would like a dog that could be told via a command that someone is a friend but if someone broke in at 1am they would alert everyone and if the person didn't retreat they would defend us. ETA: Breed considerations can come later, just trying to research what a protection dog can do compared to cost and figure out if it's a path we want to go down. I have a gun on me or accessible (but safe from kids) most of the time, wife has shot handguns ARs and shotguns but I don't think she has the mindset to shoot someone attacking her, I think the dog thing is her realizing we should have protection but not being able to do it if I'm not around. @MarkNH A trained protection dog is a masterpiece and can do a whole lot, but it’s very common that they only act under command.
