View Quote Close. More narrow stripe with the “blend” arches reaching the fenders. The goal would be to stay on the flats of the hood and avoid the compound curves of the kidney shaped indents. |

What ever happened to Cibie lamps?

Orange body with Gulf Blue Starsky and Hutch style stripe!!
Or Gulf Blue body with Orange Starsky and Hutch style stripe!! |

View Quote That’s it. The worst that could happen is I don’t like it and repaint it, ten years from now. Thanks again. |

VW Bug-aru Got it's Gulf Livery Looking at this guy’s interpretation of Gulf livery... I’m realizing I’ll want to use black as the stripe between the orange and blue. Given the amount of black that will be on the car and the rubber strip that goes between the fenders and the body. I’m also coming to the conclusion that the “skunk stripe” may be over kill and wasted effort, especially since the rack will obscure a lot of it. I’m trying to find that balance of appeal, effort, and fun. At the end of the day this is still going to be a ranch knock around and not a show car. |

Of course! First of all do what you want to do and fuxk everyone else. That being said I always love when someone goes outside the norm with their build.

Rather than just do a simple bed liner paint job I thought I’d have some fun with it and do her up in Gulf Blue and Orange. What pattern? All blue with orange fenders and lower 1/3 side? All blue with orange “stingray”? Solid orange or solid blue is still a possibility. I like wild and fun on a vehicle like that, but I am not sure Gulf matches. I like the old Baja designs. Maybe a version with Desert Tan and Army green?
Fun project anyway. A VW is one vehicle I have never owned. |

A VW is one vehicle I have never owned. View Quote This one has been a project for me for a while. A Baja, Dune Buggy, or Sand Rail are, by nature a constant project. Always something broken, needing rebuilt, or upgraded. The women in my life want it light blue. Gulf racing colors are a compromise. Left to my own devices, I’d wrap it in some version of 3D camo. |

Best bug paint job I ever saw years ago was on a cut down for offroading. Real simple, painted electric red. An obnoxious red and had "CHIGGER" in bold letters.
BTW, love the car you have there, but that Yakima rack takes away from it. Just looks wrong. Would be nice if you could scare up one of the old racks that were made for them. Probably unobtanium now though. |

Op,.
I've not been there in a while, but there once was a site called Volksrods.com. If there there is anything you could do to a Volkswagen, it has been stretched to the limits there. |

I needed a place for my weed eater and gas can. It fit and I went with it. I’ve toyed with breaking out the tubing bender and building a custom rack, but the Yakima stuff works and it’s already bought and paid for. |

That would be pretty cool! I've been trying to find a baja for a few years, but beetles have gotten scarce.
