The Phantom of the Opera (2004) is much more watchable than the 1925 version.

Lon Chaney is a better phantom though.

On the TV front ... "V" maybe?

Definitely not the X-Files.

Movie front ... there have been umpteen remakes of "A Star is Born" and "Love Affair" (An Affair to Remember) and also "The Talented Mr Ripley" was probably better than the original "Purple Noon" (which I first saw while living in Italy and it was a big hit).

All depends on the generation watching I suppose.

I agree with The Thing, I'd also say Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and probably Maltese Falcon, but the version before the one with Bogart was good too though.

I never understood how this reboot was ever given a second glance. The whole premise is humans vs robots.  The reboot was humans vs humans who say they are robots, but nobody can really tell.  It was soooooo studio-budget-constraint-cheap  and lame.

Making the natives giant and blue and using interstellar spaceships instead of transatlantic ships and machine guns instead of muskets was a stroke of genius.

The old one had way funnier actors.

Does Bladerunne 2049 count?

Because I thought it was better than the original blade runner and the original was excellent.  But I’ve got a mancrush on Ryan Gosling, so there’s that.

Sorry, 1987 "Man on Fire" sucked really bad. I mean wasn't even sorta good.  Glenn did a much better job in the lesser known film "The Challenge."

If a prequel/sequel movie is made after a significant amount of time has passed with significantly different writers, directors and/or actors (more than just a cameo)… wouldn’t that qualify as “rebooting” a franchise?

Reboots don’t have to be the “same” story.

Serious talk here.
Alien was a far better movie.
Aliens, while a good movie, wasn't even in the same genre.

Also, Terminator was leagues better than T2.

1982 "The Thing" is better than 1951 "The Thing from Another World" and that isn't easy. The 1951 version is a classic. I had actually forgotten about the 2011 version which was mostly just "meh."
