The reconstruction era after some states said they wanted to SouthXit, was pretty bad. I suspect Grant's administration was probably the most corrupt on record. Ironically, he himself wasn't that bad, but the rest of the administration was supposedly just out of control.

We have had a very checkered past in this regard.
The Grant administration. Andrew Jackson was pretty ruthless but he did pay off the national debt. When John Adams was in office, Thomas Jefferson (his VP) spent a lot of time sabotaging his agenda behind his back. All the while publicly professing the utmost friendship towards him. FDR's administration had it's moments too. Nixon had him moments and LBJ ran one heck of a political machine. We just see so much more today. |
