Quoted: I am anxiously awaiting the return of my K from Dead Air. I had to send it in after discovering a pretty severe alignment issue. Fucker was throwing my shots high and left about 4” at something like 10 yards. In the meantime, I ordered a jig to dimple my FN CHF 8.5” 300 barrel that came with my PSA upper so I can install a Geissele gas block and a DDC MK4 I just snagged on the EE for a good price. I have a Surefire scout mini that will reside on it. My plan is to have it in a Hornady wall safe in my closet. My 2 year old sleeps with my every night so it’s realistically the only way to store it nearby. It’s built on a PSA Approval-15 lower with an SBA3 brace. If it ever gets used, the media might have a field day over the rollmark what with its implication of the shameless disregard this individual has demonstrated toward the NFA process for possessing a short barrel rifle by making use of a loophole in the language! I’ll be excited when it is up and running. View Quote |

My honest answer is :
AR Shotgun Pistol The pistol is mainly for answering the door at night. Answering the door with a rifle or shotgun in hand sees like a good way to get shot by an anxious police officer. |

Sir, with all due respect, I would remove all firearms from your posession.
It would be best to call 911, then hide behind the door with a baseball bat while waiting for police. |

Choice and reality: Ratmil Draco 7.62x39mm 'pistol' with 75-rd drum. No stock, brace, or sling. Shoot from the hip and 'walk' the rounds towards the intruder.

Ok, so the majority opinion is that I'm tarded.
Educate me in the wise ways. |

Seems to me that pistols in pistol calibers, even braced ones, reign supreme for most people. Easy to open doors, and similar. Wont make you deaf.
For folks in the country with property and animal issues, the rifle and shotgun are the hand on favorites. |

Reality for me is I have little kids and probably need a hand/arm free to help carry and usher them to safety. Although a rifle makes a lot of sense, I think honestly a pistol w/light serves my purposes better.

Going to see about a bump in the night...Glock 19 with an X300U
Surefire 6p with a lanyard and Malkoff upgrade next to it. Door kicked in and full on home invasion? Colt 6921 with an Aimpoint T-1 and another Malkoff upgraded 6P. Loaded up with 75 grain TAP |

The reality is I've investigated a whole lot of defensive shootings, many inside homes or apartments. None were with an AR that were not police action shootings. Only one of those was with an AR, or any centerfire rifle. The vast majority were with a shotgun or pistol. 2 were with .22 rifles, both Marlin model 60s. ALL resulted in the attacker being shot or driven off. Only one involved more than 3 rounds being fired. That one was one of the .22lr marlins. The attacker was actually DRT by shot #3, however just to be sure, she emptied the tube into him.
My take is that everyone's circumstance is different and people use whatever they have and they are comfortable with. I know we are AR enthusiasts here and many justify their expenditure on equipment and express their political opinions based upon the self defense scenario. That desire however does not coincide with reality. The mongol hoard is not bursting into your dining room, and if it is, you got bigger issues. Use whatever you want and can shoot well. Bear in mind that what I might choose for patrol, which can and has resulted in standoff engagements at greater than 50 yards, is not the same reality in typical home defense distances. I'm sure we have someone here who owns 50yrds of indoor living room space in their palace, but that is not the case for the vast majority. Most will be engaging at less than 40 or 50 feet in any straight interior line and most of those at less than that. In addition, rifles that are not suppressed are extremely loud indoors, loud enough to be disorienting to the operator of said rifle. Pistols or shotguns, less so. You pays your money, you takes your chances. If you happen to live in a third world war zone, YMMV. |
