I mean a real one, not like a mud hole dug with a rented backhoe

way to fucking much. I was quoted north of 60K with plenty of options that could have made it a 6 figure event.

Better get it concrete lined so it can't be stolen.

I have a friend that built one in his yard for 40k here, only cost him 20 though as he used 20k in 'green' credits when he built his house
Mine is a little less than a year old. Pool, attached hot tub/spa and landscaping = $70K
If you're going to go with the Antartica option, you know the one that's cooled down to the 40's with sub freezing waters and a thick plate of plexiglass so the people in your neighborhood can observe you then you're probably looking to add an extra 50-60% of the cost.
Serious answer is that it will depend on size and construction (gunite, fiberglass, vinyl). Also, excavation will get more expensive if you have any rock ledge.

Maybe the kids would like a muddy pit dug with a rented backhoe

$30-50k for a finished hole. Then whatever you want to spend for the rest of the crap.
YMCA family membership is $80 per month down here |
Most of the pools going in around here are in the $100-200k range. I have a good customer right now that lives in a $1.5mil home and is moving down the street to another $1.5mil home, same homes (same development), but this one has a pool. He said that it was going to be right around $100k for what he wanted, and the house for sale down the street had one way better than what he wanted (over $200), so he put his house on the market and bought the other one.
Mine went about $120K, but it's laid the fuck out. Lots of granite paver deck, hot tub, fountain, remote controls, pebble-tec finish, deep end, rock retaining wall, rock features and lots of landscaping. The sky is the limit depending on what you want..and what you can afford. Mine is about 40k gallons. $10K in fencing alone...don't forget shit like that.

Just bill it out as 'office services', like every other attorney.

You could just slip at Walmart while walking to the ammo case to fund this project. Guy down the street hasn't worked in 3 years but he just got a new pool with a grotto and a hot tub. He had a nice little slip and fall a little while back but now he dives in his pool with his kids.

I had one put in seven years ago. Basic rectangle 18x36 saltwater, concrete deck and brick border was $22k.

Pools are cheap.
Keeping them filled with clean water is expensive. |

Need a patio? Patio cover? Lava rock firepit ... Call three licensed, bonded, and insured companies from Angie's list and get bids. |

don't forget to include the increased property tax assessment that comes with it
and if you don't already have one, the completely enclosing fence so that kids don't trespass and drown |

Friend did one on Long Island with a nice paver surround two years ago, $42k.
Local independent guy. |

Cheaper to buy a foreclosed condo with a nice pool facility. Zero upkeep.
