BMI doesn't apply to 99%.

It's mostly a bullshit metric that happens to correlate to maybe 65% of the population at most.

Also, and perhaps just as telling, BMI doesn't account for sex, ethnicity, age or disability.

At 5' 7", a 25 BMI is 159 pounds -- seventy-six pounds less than you are now.

Now, don't get me wrong, I get it that BMI is just a diagnostic tool, it is less accurate for some body types and compositions.  If I got to 25 BMI without losing muscle I'd be around 9% body fat and obviously that shit ain't happening.

But don't kid yourself that you're "10-12 lbs overweight".

Weather is getting nicer, and I have been ramping up.
I have been hiking 30+ miles a week.
And I have barely lost any weight.  You would think I would have lost 40 pounds, but i have only lost about 15 since January

BMI is nonsense if you're a professional running back.  Are you a professional running back?

It's like when I was growing up and looking at Eric Lindros' hockey card.  "I'm almost 6' 2" and don't weight that much more than 220".  I also wasn't a starting forward on the Flyers.

You might say I'm at the top of my game, and I'd have to agree.
My secret slid the omnivegan diet. Every day I get up and have a quick phytoplankton or quinoa based meal. I then excercise for about 20minutes and have another meal, working my way up the food chain, alternating exercise  and nutrition.
For instance, my second meal has to be primarily based on the premise that phytoplankton or quinoa are consumed by the item I am eating for the next meal.
After I've worked my way up through at least four steps of the food chain, decisions have to be made.
One time I ended up with a situation where it was 4pm, and my next meal had to be based on a bengal tiger. Boxed in as it were.
I think that the toughest day was when I ended up having to choose which primate would be eaten. As a matter of convenience and opportunity I did not go to bed hungry that day.
You see, this is not a game, it's a serious diet. One where decisions have consequences.
A move too far, too fast can have life altering consequences.

I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water activated gel cleanser. Then a honey almond body scrub. And on the face, an exfoliating gel scrub. Then apply an herb mint facial mask, which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

60% of America is overweight, but I believe only 30% or so of Americans are "obese" (which is 30 lbs. + or more overweight). I think it's only about 10% or so of Americans who are morbidly obese (60 lbs. + overweight).

I was overweight. I am now in my healthy BMI range, but just barely.  However, according to the American Council on Exercise my body fat percentage classifies me as just above the "Fitness" category and within the "Average."

I am working on getting into the Fitness Category with my body fat percentage.  I would like to further lower my BMI so that I have a more of a buffer between me and being "overweight".

I know that a lot of people don't like the BMI, it has its issues.  The NIH BMI calculator does NOT differentiate between men and women, it's just height and weight input not sex.  So, according the NIH I would be still healthy and not "Underweight" as long as I'm 129 lbs.  at 5'10".  A 129 lbs at 5'10" for a man would be like skin and bones, I'd look like I was Christian Bale from "The Machinist" at that weight.  If you were a caring person you'd rush me to an Emergency Room at that weight.  So, I don't like the way that the NIH calculates BMI for its low ends for men (don't think it makes sense at the high ends for women either).  At the high ends of NIH BMI scale though I think they do work well for men as a measure of whether they are overweight.

The problem with the USA today is that with 60% of Americans overweight there are a lot of guys who are 5 lbs. to 10 lbs. overweight and don't even realize it probably.  If you were living in the 80's or earlier and were 5 lbs to 10 lbs overweight you'd definitely know it, but nowadays you can still look very average or even thinner than a lot of people, which is deceiving.

If you're over 30 and overweight you better start looking at it as less of a physical vanity thing and more of a health issue.  Get your 10,000 steps in every day if nothing else, and try to do at least three days a week lifting weights.  Most importantly get the MyFitnessPal App on your phone and track your macros, if you don't measure something you can't manage it.  Weight yourself every morning first thing after you go to the bathroom and before you eat to get the best consistent measurement of your weight absent any water weight or carb bloat.

If you eat anything salty or have a high carb day your body will retain water weight for about three days giving the false appearance of a 3 lbs or so weight increase, but if you're eating clean for those three days after it will return back to normal.   Drink a lot of water and get eight hours of rest a day.  DO NOT drink alcohol if you're also eating something fatty, your body will not process fat until it burns off the alcohol and that means your body is really retaining that fat.  IF you drink and you eat high fat foods you run the risk of developing a fatty liver and then your body's ability to process fat will really be retarded.  In short, alcohol should be enjoyed only sparingly and not combined with fatty foods.

I've learned some lessons the hard way about nutrition.  When I was below the age of 23 I could eat literally anything and drink whatever I wanted. At 15 years old I once eat 4 full racks of Pork Spare Ribs and I didn't gain a pound, no joke, true story.   When I turned about 25 my metabolism hit a brick wall and slowed to a crawl.  I was very slow to adapt and gained weight.  I took it off, but it wasn't easy or cheap to do. I'm proud to say I've kept it off, but it's not easy.
