Headed to the DR in a month, looks like this may smack them straight on. Here’s hoping this fizzles out...

Yep, we have everything we need. We're set if the power goes out. I have enough gas for the generator for 6 days. Hopefully some stations somewhere will be open by then if the power is still out.

the center of the spaghetti models places it on a frances/jeanne track (from 2004)

i better run to the store and buy bread and water.

Has it hitting the DR and dropping it back to a depression. Projections are unclear yet whether it will consolidate/re-intensify once it comes back over water, but as of now it look like it will be a weak storm by the time it reaches Florida, if that is where it ends up.

Noticed that the HWF1 has it at a cat 3 5.5 days from now. If you look at the spaghetti track for that model that is because that model has it not hitting land, and staying in the water to the east of the DR and West of Puerto Rico.
That would put it at a cat 3, 2 days out from the Florida coast and heading towards southeast Florida. Let's hope that one doesn't happen.

Dorian Steady for Now Will Impact Windward Islands Late Monday and Tuesday

Well, at least if Dorian swings a bit north as a Cat 1/2 the west half of PR will only lose power for 3-4 weeks.

8 days and I know what you mean.
Then we went 9days or something with those tornadoes last year.

It's like the trifecta of fun.  No power, i get to use my stove collection & chainsaw

I have no generator or need for one.  Well water but we got so many springs I just get it there.

Not to say I wish harm on others just to have my own fun. But I do find them enjoyable

Yeah. All in, about 130-150k in damage done, also including engineering and permits to future proof for the next hurricane.

Steel roof, the bottom floor is now all engineered glass vs blow out walls, 2ft tall 1ft wide concrete break wall.  Etc.

Wasn't too bad in Fort Myers, basically a direct hit. Nothing like those storm surge pics where our place is. I cant imagine it was worse further inland but our place in Ft.Myers is 6.5 miles inland, you may have been closer to the coast possibly..  The loss of power and retards than cant handle traffic with no traffic signals sucked but still. We got lucky.

We had about 4 feet of water.

Front side of the island, doctors elbow area had 8-12 feet.

Irma was bad for the keys.  Worst hurricane since 1934.

Don't listen to the media, these storms tend not be a big deal in America because we have infrastructure strong enough to deal with it.

Places like Haiti get crushed by these storms and the media freaks out thinking the same thing will happen here, and people like you buy it. I've probably lived through 15 hurricanes and the aftermath each time has been palm fronds on my driveway & occasionally a downed power line.

Yes there can be devastating storms here like Harvey & Katrina but they are few and far between.

if you are going to post a pic from the nhc, or sfwmd, or any other site that the image changes constantly

download the image
convert it to a format arfcom can host
host it on arfcom

images change over time, so the image isn't going to be the same after the next update occurs

no body will know what you were talking about after the images have updated  a few times

I doubt that Rodent World has ever closed for more than one day due to 'Canes.

Old Walt built the place far enough inland so the 'Canes (and salt air) wouldn't wreck his investment.

There is no point on earth that is immune to what people like to call "natural disasters", except for those places where the NORMAL conditions generally QUALIFY as a natural disaster.

Where hurricanes don't hit, you get blizzards and ice storms,  or earthquakes, or volcanos,  droughts, floods, locusts, tourists, illegal immigrants,  disease, pestilence, famine, gay pride parades...all sorts of nonsense.

You choose your environmental threat.  Every place has one.  What's yours?

I've been living down here for more than 40 years. I've never had storm damage to the house despite several hurricanes.  I've slept in my own bed in comfort with 100 MPH hurricane winds over my roof.   I've only actually had to do that ONCE.

More houses have been burned down due to lightning, fireworks, and smoking in bed in my county than have been destroyed due to hurricanes in the last 40 years.

The threat is really rather low.  It's just sensational when it comes.

Ok, I just got back home from Harbor Freight. I bought a Predator 2000 inverter generator as a supplement to our Generac 6500, and I have a question.

Somewhere lurking deep in GD there is a GIANT generator thread. In that thread, someone posted that you can buy some type of adapter so the
Predator can operate from an external 5 gallon can.

Where can I buy this adapter if anyone knows?

Also, do you like your little Predator 2000? Have you had good service out of it?

the system is most likely going to be a tropical storm, when it hits florida.

the local media are all in hurricane hysteria mode, telling everyone to prepare for the worse

scary stories sell.

I know, some tropical storms cause problems, like ts faye did, but I don't see much from this one, except possible tornados
