Surprised no one has mentioned the torture museum.
https://torturemuseum.org/en/ It was a weird feeling walking through there back when I was 20 years old and stoned out of my gourd. Even if you don't smoke the weed at the coffee shops at least have a coffee. They make it in little cups and it's strong as shit! Best coffee I've ever had. |

Bulldog Cafe’s still around?
Hard Rock’s? You don’t have to imbibe to experience places. ?? |

It is a museum of the history of the Dutch Resistance during WW2 including an entire exhibit dedicated to the malnutrition and eventual famine of the Hongerwinter in 1944/45. edited to add that I won't have wife access, or don't expect to so I won't reply any more for the day.
I've made notes of all your recommendations. Wish me luck Anything I need to avoid for my own safety? "I'm not from round here an all". The bulldog has several locations and types. Which one is the nostalgic location? I'm NOT going to have wifi outside the hotel and airport areas. |

Watch out for the gaggles of Japanese tourists and their little wheeled carry on bags. The clatter of those things on the cobblestones is incredibly annoying.
We stayed at the Hotel de Ruyter. Nice small hotel. Excellent little pastry shop a very short walk away. It was about a 10-15 walk to the red light district. Wife wanted to see what the hoopla was about. We had a nice time in Amsterdam. We went onto Prague after a few days in Amsterdam. Prague was really nice also. |

In general the food sucks. The Heineken brewery was pretty cool. Eat all the stroopwaffles.

They have an amazing art museum. The focus is of Rembrandt who was Dutch. His paintings are so large and detailed you cannot limit to pictures and reproductions.

I was there 2006. Had a meal at a restaurant a short walk from the hotel. They refused to let me pay for the meal. Don't know why. I was there again a few years ago on business.

They have WiFi on the bus. This is awesome. Going to try to see Rijksmuseum, Torturemuseum, the original Bulldog, RLD. And eat everything I find.

Maritime museum is too far out the other way.
Want to see the VG and Verzetsmueum but don't think I'll have time. Tried to back my flight home out a day but can't because I booked it through 3rd party. |

Quoted: I intend to eat better than Mickey D's over here. I don't want herpes or aids but I might go look at em through the glass and see how attractive they are. Only hookers I have ever seen were nasty. I might eat a brownie or 2 if I can find them. This sounds like a good idea. View Quote I don't really the food being all that great. As far a the red light district, they do tours of it. Watching middle aged women that paid to go on a tour of the RDL be shocked that prostitution is going on is free entertainment. |

The Sex Museum is pretty cool.
Supposedly there is a whore museum too, but I missed that. The diamond district is pretty cool. |

We stayed in Amsterdam for three nights as a part of our trip to Europe several years back. We really enjoyed all of it. As corny as it sounds the canal cruise with dinner was a blast. Fortunately we had advance tickets/reservations to all the big attractions which made it nice considering the lines to get in that we saw everywhere. I do think that I've never seen so many beautiful women on bikes anywhere else in the world.

Go straight to the Dam.
Also, check out the Grasshopper for a good steak dinner. The Heineken tour is cool too. |

The grey area, the rijksmuseum, a canal cruise, etc. hard to have a bad time in AMS.
