A .30 carbine that weighs 2 pounds more than an M1 carbine. It will sell like something that sells poorly.

This. Other cartridges do better for cheaper

Hell were there any production rifles other the M1 carbines/clones chambered in it? I only know of a handful of pistols

AutoMag3 in .30 carbine for the handgun

Ruger Blackhawk in .30 carbine for the revolver

Marlin Model 62 for the lever action

In decades long past the M1 Carbine had 3 things going for it:

1- Cheap Surplus M1 Carbines (my dad tells stories of barrels full of them at gun stores in the 50's-60's)

2- Light handy Carbine, easy to carry

3- Cheap surplus Ammo.

Now only one of these advantages remain for the M1 Carbine.

When you put 30 Carbine in an AR you loose all the advantages.

And the AR is the new M1 anyway. Assuming you don't build it to be as heavy as possible.

Why haven't you formed a company and started making them yourself, OP?

If it was actually a good idea, you would be doing that instead of posting about it on a gun forum.

Because the M1 carbine magazine catch is not only completely incompatible with the AR15 catch configuration, it's also terrible and weak inherently.

Two little dimples on the back is unworkable with a side mounted latch in a slot.

Come to think of it, Tromix back in the day could have been convinced to build one. He did an AR in 32 ACP.

AR15 mags were sorta kinda disposable consumable originally, but the Carbine magazine design really is disposable. The design is sort of unable to be otherwise. Even late production mags intended for re-use, the two little dimples that engage the weapon are just flimsy and weak. There isn't any room for enough metal to make them rugged. If you're careful, you can make them last, but just one time yu get rough, they'll get all all bunged up and never really work right again.

That would be kinda neat, especially if .30 carbine was plentiful and cheap.

I think it would be a hot seller

It wouldn't. Think to yourself, has .300BO taken over or did it just enjoy a flash of popularity that gained just a little more traction than other non-conventional rounds.

A .30 carbine AR wouldn't really have anything going for it, more expensive ammo, less range, "cheap" mags that cost more than most AR mags.

It doesn't exist because it's a solution that causes more problems than it solves.

I have four vintage carbines. Trust me, if you just bang the mag on a corner of the hallway, it will destroy the mag dimples and that mag will never be reliable again. I've fixed them with a quick weld and file, and made then range/plinking usable, but compared to the AR system, there is no comparison.

I think this would have been great in the '90s. Now? No point. 300 BLK pushes a bullet that is the same weight at the same speed from a barrel that is 9" shorter, and the BC is double so it holds velocity a lot better.

They should make a new 30 cartridge that works with the existing lowers and mags for the 5.56/223, they could even make loads that work in shorter length barrels, maybe even can it. That would be cool to just be able to switch uppers.

"It would be kinda neat" was in no way a suggestion that it would do anything at all better than existing AR platforms.

One could make the argument that an M-1 carbine in .223 would be a better direction to take, especially if it used AR/M16 mags, but the Mini-14 never came close to the AR greatness, and still wouldn't even if it used the same mags.

Many moons ago somebody made a metal stock to turn a m1 carbine into a Tompson machine gun looking gun. the M1 action hooked into the back of the frame and the barrel band  held it in place in the front. I do not know if it had the cut out for the selector for a m2. I remember seeing them in the 1970`s

They did years ago. Can't remember exact name, but, it was along the lines of 30 Caliber Herritt. Somebody made a rimless version of 30 Herritt that worked in AR's. I think it may have been based off of 6.8 Brass.

I think somebody also did a 357 Harrett AR, but, it's been so many years I will have to look it up. If i remember correctly, both calibers perform better that 300blk.

I may be mixing info on both calibers, and, there was an AR available for sale that took the Harrett Rimless Tactical cartridge, but, not sure how that really played out years ago.
