What the fuck were they thinking? This had to make it past a dozen decision makers who all shook their head yes before it made it to full production. Attached File Its been years now and it still boggles my mind how this happened. |

It is odd.
Like how many meetings did it get approved through from design to mold maker to prototype and selling. Wtf. |

I have no doubt marketing ran that past potential customers that absolutely loved it.

What it really needed was a "Front Toward Enemy Zone" label to keep their intended customers from holding it backwards and making Darwin proud.

I have nothing to add except Shaking your head means no, nodding your head means yes.

This was probably the same management team that thought it was a good idea to fund anti-gun politicians and legislation in Illinois. GRIPZONE is probably the least offensive of their bad ideas.

View Quote When did you take my picture?? I also have a couple of XD pistols, but none of them have the silly but inconsequential grip zone. They are pretty good guns, despite GD getting the vapors over anyone daring to own one. |

All these years later, and people still talk about it. Although not really in a positive light, I'd say that was very effective advertising to live rent free in peoples heads that long.

View Quote Yup... 'Grip zone' is evidently so 'grippy' that many just can't let it go. Very effective indeed. In the interest of full disclosure the last time I shot one of 'those things' it said HS2000 on it. |

As someone that's been in aerospace Business Development, Capture Management, and Bid & Proposal for a long time now I can tell you in the bigger companies marketing does a fantastic job of doing their own thing without talking to others. I've tried my best when it effected things I was working on to better inform/educate them or at least work with them so they weren't putting out contradictory information or at least shit that was just downright stupid marketing jibberish with no substance to it.
Part of this issue I found was the BD/Capture folks never were really trained or cared how to work with and utilize the marketing folks either. So in that vacuum you'd have these "creatives" with no solid technical grasp of the customer or product just absolutely slinging bullshit everywhere just to try to stay busy. Since their funding usually doesn't come out of any of my budgets I try to utilize them as much as possible. They get to learn some actual shit about the company they're in and I get some free high quality work done for customers, events, captures I'm working on. Win/Win. Most people are too dumb or lazy to do that though. |
