...and is conducting a security review in response to Republican criticism over the $80billion in funds being used to recruit more agents
The Internal Revenue Service is launching a full security review of its facilities nationwide, Commissioner Charles Rettig announced Tuesday. It comes after Congressional Republicans and right-wing voices online drummed up fears over the decade-long $80 billion cash infusion the agency was allotted as part of the Inflation Reduction Act, which President Joe Biden signed into law last week. 'We see what's out there in terms of social media. Our workforce is concerned about their safety,' Rettig told The Washington Post Tuesday. 'The comments being made are extremely disrespectful to the agency, to the employees and to the country.' Rettig, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, had sent out a letter to employees, which was obtained by The Post, informing them that the IRS would be undertaking a risk assessment for each of the IRS's 600 faciliies - the first of its kind since the Oklahoma City federal building bombing in 1995. 'For me this is personal,' Rettig said. 'I'll continue to make every effort to dispel any lingering misperceptions about our work. And I will continue to advocate for your safety in every venue where I have an audience. You go above and beyond every single day, and I am honored to work with each of you.' Republicans and their right-wing allies have turned IRS employees into political punching bags in the run-up and the aftermath of the $370 billion bill's passage. 'Abolish the IRS,' Republican Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted Sunday. Earlier in the month, Cruz claimed that 'Schumer-Manchin would fund 87,000 IRS agents.' 'Just imagine THOUSANDS of IRS agents descending upon America like a swarm of locusts!' he tweeted. Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley asked on Fox: 'Are they going to have a strike force that goes in with AK-15s already loaded ready to shoot some small business person in Iowa?' Continued |

Stop taking our money and enriching scum here in the US, and sending the rest to the scum overseas.
MAYBE then you and your agency won't be hated? |
|
If they are concerned about their safety, maybe they should stop doing dangerous things....like stealing from honest, decent people whose last straw is about to break.

They're not too concerned when they squeeze a man enough to put a bullet in his own brain.

do these people think their kids are going to be welcomed along with the other kids on the soccer field?
do they think their wives will be invited to bunko games? what are they going to talk about at bridge? "oh karen, i heard chad and his warrant team kicked down richard and helen's door last night...did he make it home ok?" do they think the new job will make them more or less welcome at church? social events? ...and every IRS and US Treasury Agent that I have ever known told me they had a tough time recruiting because of the stigma, PLUS teh fact the hiring screening process included subjecting themselves to a standard 3 year tax audit, which means most of their applicants have never filed their taxes on anything but a 1040EZ or a short form...can they fill those billets? asking for a friend... |

It’s like they don’t realize their fear of us is what is supposed to keep them honest.

We are under worse tyranny than the founding fathers were from England

You extort me into paying you, then use the money in all manner of irresponsible way, then use it to hire even more extortion agents? And now you are afraid?
We haven't even done anything yet. |

Respect and trust is something you earn. The IRS commissioner must not of learned this valuable lesson. Perhaps he should focus his efforts on building respect and trust.

Ted Cruz is a rino. He is "controlled opposition." Fake as a $3 bill. The IRS sucks the big one.

I don’t advocate violence against the IRS… come to think of it, I don’t recall hearing anybody advocate for it either.

The F IRS brings misery pain and rediculous fees to millions of Americans. They are the most most hated bureau ever, and there are a lot of shitty bureaus.
And they wonder why we all fucking hate them? No one is ever forced to work at the IRS. Its a choice, a shitty choice. To be clear, I advocate no violence at all to anyone. But you guys are seriously dicks. |

View Quote I've worked with some before...the last one I knew said he had gone straight out of the Army and never had any other job but with the US gov so he breezed right through the audit. When he took early retirement he told me he "just wanted to go make sawdust" (be a carpenter) because he was so sick of his job and being treated like he had leprosy |

Good, the American workers been concerned about the IRS doing them harm for a long time.
Edited to add sounds like we're finally starting to get back to our constitutional roots. Government should fear the people not the other way around |
