Le tired.
Turkey hunting this morning. Used nods to get to our spot predawn. Then cooked brekkie. In laws had a list of maintenance items a mile long. 2 trips to Terre Haute and 8 hours later I got all of the 8’ lights and ballasts replaced in the work shop as well as the closet light for my MIL. And the tp holder in the master bathroom. And all of the burned out lamps. Busy day. |

Quoted: Sounds like a good day though View Quote It was, yes. Sad too. My fil is slowly losing his mind. 80 years old and dementia is setting in. Half the time his brain uses the wrong words so figuring out what he’s trying to say can take some time. MIL isn’t doing great either but that is all physical. Too many years smoking and overweight. Sucks getting old, I guess. |

Good on you for helping out. |

Quoted: That is why I asked about your night experience with shooting. Too many folks, IMHO, see NV as trendy accessories and have zero training or useful practical experience with them. It is kind of useful to know more than how to just turn on the NVGs. Things such as: how to correctly focus them, what to look for in malfunctions, having a backup plan if the batteries or the unit fail, how the eye works at night, and how to conduct malfunction drillls, weapon field stripping, etc under poor lighting conditions. View Quote Most NV owners struggle just walking around That’s why I suggest to people to turn all the lights off, and do normal shit around the house. Folding laundry, taking a shit, vacuuming. |

The first time I did that I was shocked by how many things I had that had status LEDs that I had to go around and put electrical tape over to bring the light level down. |

I mean, I'm broken and naturally tend toward night shift hours, so I can sleep during daylight pretty well. |

Quoted: So the wallet appears to be empty, checking email I opened a pooled account with bitcoin.cz (early in 2011 when coins were under a dollar each) that is now Slush's pool and ran it on a good GPU for about 6 months and I think I generated between 50 and 100 coins but never transferred them to my wallet. Slush's pool has no record of my account View Quote Damn |

Quoted: Understood. Perhaps I did not make my point clearly. It is not necessarily the possession of certain gear that makes for LARPing. It is the possession of gear with no idea how it works or how to use it correctly- and they bought it just because others have it. I know proper NV training is tough to find outside the .mil or maybe the popo, and it seems you are making the best of what you have. But- "I bought a bunch of cool guy stuff to put on my helmet, and someday I'll learn to turn it on" = LARP "I never have taken any medical training, but I participate in GD debates over how many TQs I should run in my IFAK." = LARP "I sell air conditioning in North Carolina." = LARP View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: I think that's true of a lot of the internet forum/IG crowd, but not nearly all, and I still don't see how that relates to NV automatically = LARPing? I'd find NV useful even if I had to switch to white light to shoot, just for passive navigation and observation. That said, if I didn't have the Cola network to learn from I probably never would have taken the plunge. As it is, I've learned quite a bit the few times I've been shooting, at the Cola Wars, and just playing around with my 14. I can shoot pretty well out to 50yds with either laser or RDS; I haven't shot much passed that yet. Reloads and weapon manipulations are something that can be done as dry fire at home, and I have played with that a bit; I wouldn't say that I'm super competent, but certainly better than I was. I have to write a paper about stuff I made up for the last paper. Seriously. It has to be in APA format with three scholarly sources about stuff I made up. Literally, the assignment was to make stuff up, and then write a follow up paper about it. |
