A first look has been revealed at what will be the biggest cruise ship in the world when she debuts in 2024.
Royal Caribbean's mega-ship Icon of the Seas will be 1,198 feet long and weigh 250,800 gross tons, statistics that nudge her ahead of the current biggest cruise ship – Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas, which is 1,187ft long and weighs 236,857 gross tonnes. What's more, Icon of the Seas will have features as eye-opening as her size, from the first suspended infinity pool at sea to a three-storey family suite. This room comes complete with its own white picket fence and mailbox. Suspended infinity pool Icon will have capacity for 7,600 guests, with other room options for them including the 'Surfside Family Suite', with alcoves for kids 'tucked away from the adults', 'Sunset Corner Suites' and 'Panoramic Ocean View' quarters. For starters, Icon will feature the largest waterpark at sea – called 'Category 6' - containing six 'record-breaking' slides: 'Pressure Drop' and its 66-degree incline – 'the industry's first open free-fall slide'; the 46ft-tall 'Frightening Bolt', the tallest drop slide at sea; 'Storm Surge' and 'Hurricane Hunter', the first family raft slides at sea – and 'Storm Chasers', which Royal Caribbean claims is 'cruising's first mat-racing duo'. Royal Caribbean's first swim-up bar at sea - Swim & Tonic - which will be on Chill Island Chill Island's infinity-edge Cove Pool, which features in-water loungers This rendering shows the new AquaDome, which is perched at the top of Icon of the Seas and features an 'awe-inspiring waterfall' Icon will sail year-round, seven-night eastern and western Caribbean vacations from Miami 'With each new ship, we raise the bar in the travel industry while enhancing what our guests know and love,' said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group Cloud 17 in the new Chill Island neighborhood on Icon of the Seas is an adults-only retreat, 'complete with endless ocean views and a dedicated bar' Icon will be Royal Caribbean's first ship with fuel cell technology and powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) The Panoramic Ocean View suites and rooms on Icon of the Seas are 'among the best seats in the house', says Royal Caribbean Vacationers will be able to swing 154 feet above the ocean at the 'Crown’s Edge' ropes course Vacationers can book their 'iconic' adventure on Royal Caribbean's website on Tuesday, October 25 Continued |

This would be an excellent location for Die Hard 6 or what ever we are on now.

Besides not wanting to be "trapped" with 8K other people, I just don't want to be stuck having to be on the 'ships' schedule. Outside of an Alaska cruise, might consider one of those Euro river rides, but this? No, no thanks. But you go ahead and do you. If some sort of disaster were to happen with something that size, the Titanic and Lusitania are going to pale by comparison. That's a lot of bodies in one place to have to "rescue". |

Now imagine if that bloated floater had happened to be sailing over the Nordstream as it blew ....
Directed by Michael Bay ...staring Duhwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodrigez and their 6 annoyingly over-cutesified crotch fruit |

Holy shit that looks crowded.
Thats the kind of shit im trying to escape, not desiring to participate in!!! |

Somehow I dont envision the actual cruise goers to look anything like the pictures above.

I won't be going on one but I find those ships pretty cool. Amazing, I wonder what their profit is when it's useful life is over?
|
|
Looks to be a lot of water in that boat.
If I'm sailing, I'll actively seek out a boat that highlights how dry it is. Not one that looks pre-sunk. |
|
Imagine being a sub captain and sinking that ship. You would be over halfway to being the all-time tonnage leader with only one kill.
|
|
Well, given that about 20% of the population is a bunch of complete and utter morons, I'd rather not be stuck on a boat with 1500 assholes.

Where are the CAD land whales on their jazzies at the buffet line?

Unfortunately my wife will want to go on this.
I hate cruises. |

If some sort of disaster were to happen with something that size, the Titanic and Lusitania are going to pale by comparison. That's a lot of bodies in one place to have to "rescue". I saw the aftermath of what an entire cruise of them did to a ship. I had been on the Celebrity Millennium a few times when it was brand new. The ship was new and beautiful. Then Celebrity decided to run a promotion in South America to increase their market share and they had an entire itinerary set aside for them exclusively. I went on the ship again a few months after that "experiment" and the ship was destroyed inside. All of the carpets were stained, all the artwork in public places were damaged, doors were damaged, tons of table settings were broken and the buttons on the elevators were destroyed. The crew I talked to were traumatized by it. The told me of unruly mobs of kids, constant fights and every sort of trashy behavior you could imagine. The Filipino security cruises usually employ are tough and don't take shit from anyone, so it must have been a nightmare if they couldn't keep a lid on it. I have no interest in these mega barges. I prefer the mid-size ships in the 2000-3500 passenger range, which is what you see in the other cruise regions like Europe, Asia and Alaska. |

Probably around 1200 per person for a 4 night, or 1600ish for a 7 night.
Depends on the type of room you get. People talk shit about cruises but overall I find them to be overall an enjoyable, easy vacation. |

There's gonna be some BIG ass fights over crab legs at the buffet. Just sayn.

I'll need to bring my AK, so I can fight through the Ringo-zombies to get to the lifeboats.

I bet a new COVID variant will be made up and shut down the cruise industry again in 1 day before it's maiden voyage.
