I used to live in Lubbock Texas before I moved to San Antonio and I drove by his house fairly regularly. There is a historical marker there. I also got to meet The Crickets several times. They used to play at a small bar and grill called Chelsea's in the South Plains Mall. Great guys.

Glad there’s a historical marker for visitors to read there.
I think all the iconic stuff from my Mom’s youth has been forgotten. She loved Barbara Eden and I got interested in astronomy during Boy Scouts after watching the show as a little kid with her                     Attachment Attached File

It's a shame that he died so young. He was only 27 I believe and only 2 years recording. He left a big mark on the music industry as a whole.

I highly recommend that people visit the Udvar-Hazy Smithsonian facility to see the fully restored Enola Gay.  It is spectacular.

Nose gear collapse ???

I spent ~7 years at LAX as a GSE mechanic for both TWA and FedEx. Oh the stories both good and bad. The upside to the GSE side of things was I had the ID that let you go pretty much anywhere you wanted and you normally had a shop truck to drive.

There is a photo of a boy at a funeral, I can only assume his dad's, being handed the folded flag by an officer.  He is trying so hard not to cry, but his little face is just crumpling.  Every time I see that one, I just cannot handle it.  Heartbreaking.

Most people alive now around Pittsburgh never saw this man olay baseball, but what a great athlete he was.  And hes respected by all.
I love when they play video of him on the jumbotron.  The incredible throw from deep RF, and the wild running style he had
And an even greater humanitarian, lost his life trying to help others.

This is a great one too also from Pittsburgh sports history

"The most requested photograph from the National Archives is a black and white image of Richard Nixon and Elvis Presley shaking hands. Yes, really. There’s a bunch of memorable shots which is why I posted more than 1 in each of my posts for all the historic photos. These images had a huge impact. Vietnam, the space race etc all directly affected my family. My Mom’s brother was killed in Vietnam. So when I watched Toy Story with my son 20 years ago it was a different movie experience for me than for a little toddler growing up. I tried to take my son to a NASA exhibit but like skiing he didn’t have the same enthusiasm and I took him to the Marr Island naval yard and 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge but none of that excited him.
