First picked one up in Tomorrow Never Dies.

Casino Royale is the last film we see the P99. Daniel Craig seems to prefer the PPK.

Yes, picks it up at a Chinese safe house:

The PDP with threaded barrel and RMR would be a worthy successor to the P99, and an eminently practical real world gun.

The ideal would be for Walther to make their own PPS 3.0 version of the P365/Hellcat/G43. That would really fit the ideal Bond Gun, and would also be a huge seller for them.

He was originally a small caliber Beretta dude.  It nearly got him killed and M made him switch to the PPK.   "007?  Just leave the Beretta."

P99 started in "Tomorrow Never Dies" and lasted through "Quantum of Solace".

As far as using non-British weapons, I believe you don’t usually use weapons from your own country when you’re a secret agent overseas. It’s easier to deny working for your country and harder to be identified as being from a certain country. I think this is actual spy craft SOP. SOG groups didn’t even carry US weapons early in the Vietnam war so it would be harder for people to say we were where we weren’t supposed to be. Hence the Swedish K, Browning HP. Having a German gun is good for a British agent not trying to look like a British secret agent.

For a real secret agent, I would say G19 because it’s ubiquitous, reliable, reasonably compact, and good firepower. 9mm can be found most places. Second choice is S&W 642. Compact, reliable, light, no shell casings.

For James Bond character, the PPK isn’t a bad gun. .380 is ok for self defense when your not expecting a professional ambush. It’s compact. I like the manual safety for pocket use. It’s reasonably ubiquitous. In one movie I believe he used a Walther P5. I think he should have stayed with that because I think it’s cool.

Also, the new Bond movie sucked. Don’t see it.

The P365 seems like the obvious choice, but I'd also throw the KelTec P32 in the ring as something you could wear with a tailored tux and not print, and it's in his classic caliber and even kinda looks like a PPK that got flattened.  Probably too cheap looking for 007 though.

A high quality P32 type pistol would be great; Keltec would be a tough sell for Bond.

Maybe not the P32, but the Rohrbaugh R9 would be a pretty solid Tuxedo gun. Sadly discontinued, but Q could probably track one down.

Here's a sub-section of my collection of Bond handguns - made for this post.

I think that a Bond signature handgun has to be precious, Uber-quality oozing; hence likely German.

Haven't added yet a SIG P365 just yet as I had no room but I do consider it viable; my choice, however, goes (for now) to the VP9SK in a similar configuration to mine. Just needs an RMR (which I will add).

Very famous shot. I used to have that air gun as a child - been wondering if I should buy it again.
Point was, someone fucked up for the photoshoot and didn't bring an actual PPK; so someone else came up with that one and that was that.

Funny - and eventually, effective!

In terms of a classy, 'modern PPK', the Kahr K9 is probably the closest current production offering in terms of size and stylishness.

CZ Rami could also be pretty comparable and stylish.

From a practicality standpoint, this would be a great choice.  I've noticed that the LCP and PPK share a similar profile, but I prefer the LCP after shooting with both.  It's a great carry gun for places where concealed means concealed, which would be extremely useful for a secret agent.

I agree, the LCP and especially LCP Max with threaded barrel and micro suppressor, would be extremely practical.

Especially for Ops in Europe in a suit, where concealability would trump firepower.

I suggested that to them long before the P365 came on the market, I called it the "PPS-M13".
