View Quote The Enterprise is Insanely Huge Also Probert designed the TNG Romulan Warbird and said that was also originally supposed to carry the crew's families and large cargo pods for establishing colonies (cougheggscough). I've always thought that the alliance with the Romulans in the face of the Borg threat that mid-series TNG was tiptoeing towards was the story thread that TNG should have been built around, and not carrying it through the show's greatest failure. Having Federation and Romulan generation ships comingle sounds very much like older quasi-pacifist Gene Roddenberry. Alas the children were annoying and Earth needed saving once a season. |

The crew section I.e. saucers section is connected to its main source of propulsion and power buy something akin to a chickens neck, snap that now you only have impulse power (that’s if the gas for them isn’t coming through the soda straw struts) or the engineering spaces and since the warp core is were most power for critical systems is generated you lose most of the cool gadgets unless they got some generators around, but I’m pretty sure those fuel sources would also be in places you can’t get to since almost all federation ships were designed for form over function and probably because they were space hippies. 3. Space hippies suck. |

Warp Drive is abysmally slow compared to the Empire's Hyper Drive. Even with inferior firepower, Empire ships are so much faster they could hit-and-run any Star Trek planet before reinforcements could arrive. Klingon ships were all warships. The fed ships were almost all exploration first ships. If the Feds wanted to, they could build the best warships. A single Defiant class destroyer/escort ship manned by cadets was nearly a match for the Dominion's heaviest class battle ship. Klingons did have some good tech. The poleron torpedos they fired could often pass through shields. The birds of prey had heavy disruptor cannons. The Heavier ships had even more heavy disruptors. The Klingon ships had lots of armor so even if they lost shields they were okay. A Federation ship that lost shields in a fight usually suffered heavy damage even from phasers. /off Nerd Mode |

But I suspect that they were too alien for the Star Trek writers to wrap their minds around. I think the only other time that they were seen they were cosplaying as humans as part of an espionage operation. It seems like most of the different races on that show were just ‘rubber forehead aliens.’ |

I always wondered why they still aged on Star trek, from the first series through the movies as time went on.
You figure if you could beam someone down to a planet and disassemble and reassemble all their molecules via a transporter there would be a way of saving that data. Then every year just beam back to your former self and never age. Right? |
