Was just curious as I have been perusing other rounds for another AR build.

Hit me with suggestions?

You should go with whatever the guys running and gunning on YouTube are using.

6.5 CM and 6.8 fury will deliver better performance and fit in 7.62 sized actions

I dont even own a .308 anymore. Surplus dried up and its no longer a deal. I switched to 6.5cm.

I assume this is a parody thread for the trans round.

The 6.5 Creedmoor-Jesusmoor-Natomoor is the answer you seek. I have two and thinking hard about adding a third to the stable.

Effective at what?

More effective at what?

At long range, 6.5 Creedmoor gives better performance than 308 but in side of 400 yards favors 308.

Yes...but not for the same price.

7.62/ 308 just has the legs under it to beat anything else out on logistics alone.

Wolf loading 6.5 Gren was a good start its still hard to find and spendy.

I was going to say .30-06. But also wasnt6 the 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser a very well respected round? Accuracy? Enough power etc.

These are probably your best bets. One is commercially available, one has a higher case capacity and can be hand loaded for higher performance.

I’ve got bolt guns and semi autos in .260 Remington and it is flatter shooting than .308 with less recoil.

I wouldn't touch 277 Fury with a 10' pole right now.

And yes, I'm with MooreShawn - I seriously doubt this is a legit thread.

Since the majority of folks shoot at paper at 100 yards, most anything fits your detailed criteria

Probably lots “ better “ for certain situations, but none as nearly economical, 308 wins hands down due to sheer amount of component availability, cheap brass, surplus bullets, etc.

Example, I bought 10,000 pieces of once fired lake city 7.62 brass, $70.00 per 1000.

What would just 1000 pieces of once fired 6.5cm cost ? $500 ? I bought 7000 pieces of  308 for that cost.

I’m getting into 6,5cm for long range shooting, but .308 is my main large rifle caliber , I have 3 currently, a rem model 7, a rem 700 tactical in chassis, and a ar-10, and  I’ll be buying more of them in the future for my grandkids deer rifles too.

As an owner of only 260 out of the two, I would trade my brass, dies, and gun for a creedmoor any day.  This is

However, I agree.  6.5 is the best -08

.308 is the way.

Unless of course you are recoil sensitive or have a vagina then 6.5cm would be the best option. 6.5 cm is lighter on the recoil and you can also brag to friends and range buddies that you own a fad round pushed by a bullet manufacturer. You can also take a deer 3.5 miles away during a hurricane.

For me .308 is all I need.

if you are going to be shooting inside of 400 yards I suggest handloading the 130 gr ttsx barnes boat tail bullet to max pressure.  it should get up to 3200fps and has an extremely flat trajectory but beyond that it starts rapidly losing steam.  these bullets shot sub MOA out of a tikka rifle  no need to look for a different cartridge, these bullets basically turn the 308 into a 270 winchester. look to the barnes website for load data.

Get a 308Win because ammo isn’t cheap and you want to shoot. 308Win is cheaper than other options.
