Between the two I sort of like the 37 as it would match up with my Cobra nicely, but I think the price is a little steep given its condition. I'm not in any rush, but I know the prices sure aren't going down... If the 36 had the correct grips, I'd probably go for it. Quoted: Regarding prices: An old friend of mind is a retired FHP trooper, who carried a 6 inch Python for some years, back when troopers were issued shiny revolvers in crossdraw holsters. No idea what price the agency had paid for that gun, probably back in the early 70s. In the mid 80s when those guns were phased out, he was told he would be allowed to buy his duty Python...for whatever the current retail cost of a Python was. He said it was probably $700 or so then, and he was mighty pissed about the "deal" he was offered by his agency. Newest addition today model 65-4 trade in for $499. Needs a deep cleaning but even dirty has a very smooth double action pull and beautiful single. I feel like I stole it at this price compared to what old pre locks are going for these days. Not sure what I'll do for grips or holster yet but I'm sure I'll get it figured out

The Fitz always struck me as a gun that would lock up if a strong blow hit the triggerguard. I get that it's fast, but fast for it's time - it was competing w/ 7 round autoloaders w/ mil-spec triggers, not the tuned raceguns of our day.

Quoted: The top one! That's the way I'm leaning. The pinned barrel on the 36 is alluring, but all of my other J frames are stainless, so that's a good fit. I'm definitely going to tell the guy (regardless of which I buy) that I'm interested in buying the other one too if he decides to let it go as well. Now I just need to wait on my lunch break to get here... Anyone know if those stocks on the 60 would have been original? I'm thinking they might have come off a lady smith. I think I have an extra pair of factory magnas to pop on there, though. |
