Sure. Last revolver month I was tempted by everyone posting about their 65 surplus revolvers. Was hard to resist getting in on that. So I ordered a 19 carry comp yesterday to make up for it.

759.99 but I have a coupon for $50 off. It's just the plain Jane stainless model but the coupon would offset the price of some wood grips for it.

Nice. I like those grips. I've stripped the finish off my Blackhawk and single six as well. It's been a long time since I've shot my SS. I should take it out next time.

Went to the gun shop after work. I was pretty close to going home with the GP100, but ultimately I just couldn't do it. It was a nice gun, solid in every way, but it just didn't do it for me.

I do have a line on an interesting Colt, though. Anyone know anything about 22 cal Police Positives?

Thanks.
It's been a while for me, too.
I like to rotate through the pile and shoot them all now and then.
That's a stainless grip frame. Ruger used to just sell them to anyone.

New revolver day. I just picked up this 686-6 with 2.5" barrel. Of course I had to also add the obligatory revolver family picture.

S&W 686 .38/.357
S&W 442 .38
S&W 617 .22LR
S&W 317 .22LR
Ruger Blackhawk .38/.357 w/9mm convertible cylinder

I got that same version about a month ago and so glad I did.

Glad you asked. The 638 in stock config is awful to shoot. With Hogue grips it's tolerable. However, it loses a lot of the positives that it had going for it - namely pocketability.

So it becomes more of a belt gun. If that's the case I'd rather have a steel frame with good sights.  Something actually shootable.

I'm open to suggestions or other opinions though. 1911s I know well. Revolvers not as much.

You've got the 3" king cobra for a belt gun. Keep the 638 for pockets or fanny packs.

Nothing wrong with the 640 but the Colt is a much better belt gun.

I went back to the gun shop to buy the GP100, only to be distracted by a 3" king cobra. I don't have a 3" 357, but man I hated those rubber grips on that one. Really nice revolver otherwise, and I especially liked the gold bead front sight.

I left without buying anything (again), and began looking for wood stocks to fit the king cobra. Slim pickings, it would seem.

@mclark202 what grips does your 3" have on it?

I've posted pics of this beauty a few times.  Andy Horvath Custom Blackhawk.  It's a .45 Colt, but Andy made a new cylinder from scratch (pics show original and custom cylinder).  Oversize on both diameter and length, the cylinder walls are 50% thicker at the weakest point, bumping up the maximum pressure to around 40,000 PSI.  Andy also had to mill out the frame to fit the oversize cylinder.

It's a beast to shoot, but hits very hard.  Shot a deer with it already.

Andy is working on a couple other guns for me now.  My first handgun, a GP100 that is getting a completel overhaul (new barrel, refinish, action job) and a 629 Mountain Gun (new sights, cutting for moon clips).  I'll post pics when I get things back.

Oh, it's worse than that.  All the cylinder releases are on the wrong side - Ruger, S&W (most), Colt, Kimber, Manurhin, Charter (most).  He's getting an Arminius (his great-grandfather's), a Dan Wesson, S&W M&P Bodyguard, a Charter Arms Southpaw, and as many single actions as I can afford.  Korth is also on the list, along w/ a larger DW.  I dunno if I'll ever spring for a Korth, though.  Maybe a Webley if his uncle can weld a thumblatch on the right side.

To allow for longer / heavier 350+ grain hardcast bullets, if I ever feel like it.  Not sure I ever will load monsters like that, but why not?

ETA:  If I recall correctly, I don't think he had to mill out the frame for length.  I wanted him to re-cut the forcing cone on the barrel and set the gap at less than .002.  I think he shortened the barrel slightly, and made up for it with a longer cylinder.  If you look at a standard .45 Blackhawk, the barrel sticks through the frame a bit, and the cylinder doesn't "fill" the whole frame window.  On mine, the barrel barely sticks through the frame and the cylinder fills the whole window.
