Favorite would be a 66-1 2.5” with a Smith Performance Center trigger job.  I bought it and it came with a spare barrel as the original forcing cone was trashed due apparently from too many 125gr hot loads.  I sent it to Smith and had them install and pin the new barrel.  Got the trigger job at the same time.  It’s a honey.  My 624 is pretty high up there as well.  It went back to Smith as it had “push off” when I bought it.  Perf center fixed it and did a trigger job at the same time.

Must have for me is 2.5” K frame Magnums.  I love them and have several.  They do something for me.  I also love 4” N frames.  They just look and feel balanced.  I’m honestly not a huge fan of long barrel revolvers.  I do have a 5” model 27 and a 8-3/8” model 17 though.  I sold my long barrel 29’s after my heart surgery.  Can’t handle 44 mag recoil very well anymore but I kept the 4”-er’s as I just love them.  I reload so I keep them at “Skeeter 44 special” level and I do just fine.

The 624

The 66 on the left.  Right is a 64.  They both have Sambar Stag grips.

I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t shot the 64.  I have several revolvers I haven’t shot yet.  When it gets warmer I’m going to start fixing that.

Don’t make me ping you this Spring to remind you to get out and shoot them. You have a fantastic collection (1911s too if I recall) and I hope you can enjoy them.

Am I seeing correctly the stag grips are like $3-500?

Yea, they are.  I’ve got a mix of mostly Spressor and Eagle grips.  I like Sambar.  It’s a durable grip and looks good.  I got most of mine years ago when they weren’t so expensive, just like the revolvers.

Yes, I have a few Colt 1911’s as well….

Most of those are shot but a couple haven’t made it to the range yet.  I’ve got some non Colts as well.

Heck, here’s a few more revolvers:

All 44’s.  Magnums on the left, Specials on the right.

I do love shorty K frame magnums.

I know there’s some dupes in these pictures but that should be most of them.

This T grip setup feels better than the stocks I have currently and seem to be a way to add some bling lol. Polished aluminum, brass, etc.

Here are the target grips. Absolutely my favorite and the most comfortable. I’d just describe it as “properly filling my hand”
The more I stare at it though, it looks disproportionate. I’m not sure that’s a deal breaker for me but it’s noticeable

Very well.

I purchased this gun from member ikor, may he rest in peace, and I shot it for many years. ikor was a mentor of mine, and a damn fine man and cop. He retired from LE shortly after I started, at the turn of the century (one day, I will tell his story about the Colt Python and the kitten). I have shot untold numbers of handloads through this gun, mostly my own cast bullets.

Long story short, during the hard times after my divorce in 2012, I needed money very badly, and sold this weapon to my brother. He has kept it in his safe for these years, and refused many offers to sell. He has tormented me for all this time that he would sell it to the first reasonable offer. Some times, I would panic that he would follow through on his threats. My brother was the best man in my wedding last month, and he presented my with this firearm as a gift to wear for my nuptials.

I will never let this piece slip from my grasp again. It is, in my opinion, one of the most perfect handguns to exist. It is certainly the most well-balanced, and I will cherish it to my grave

Thanks. Mine was marked Model of 1988, so it was one of the really early ones. It belongs to an owner of the shooting range where I used to work. I'm happy, because I know he appreciates it for what it is, and I'm sad because it's one of three hundred or so other special handguns that he owns.

I couldn't afford to get it back these days, but I'd surely love to try

My Magna Port custom S&W 28-2.  It was a 4".  It was the first used revolver I bought and didn't catch the eroded forcing cone.  I gave the gun to Kenny for an action job and he told me about the forcing cone.  He offered me a 5" or 3 1/2" barrel for my barrel.  I went with the 5" to make a Skeeter Skelton'ish clone.  So now it is my blue worn 28-2 Model 27 with a brand new barrel.  She shoots great.  Popping milk jugs with it it 90 yards is alot of fun.

Beautiful guns-and .44 special is nothing to sneeze at. It'll kill most anything that needs to die-even Dirty Harry used a "light special" in his 29.

He paid under $400.

I wanna say that I paid $600 for it. I can't remember what I got for it when I sold it, but it probably bought food for me for a couple of months.

I just asked my old boss about it, and he said that he'd sold it last year.

It’s a 325 Night Guard in 45acp.  Unfortunately it wasn’t available without the damn lock.  I’ve got a plug for it but just haven’t gotten around to putting it in.  I don’t have a 5” model 10 but I do have a pristine 4” skinny barrel 10 I don’t have a picture of that also hasn’t been shot by me.

Here we go!

Would this bronze T grip look retarded on this revolver with my original grips?

I think it'd look just fine on that pre-10!

Also, I love this thread so much.  Can we extend revolver month into next month?  I think we should.

I picked up another SP101 today, this one in .38.  Local shop had it for a VERY reasonable price.  Has some finish wear and tear, but it was very tight mechanically.

Revolver month is pretty much revolver year for me.

It fits. I'm not as anti-Taurus as some of my posts imply, they just pissed me off with their pricing. It used to be you bought Taurus because they were a couple hundred less than an equivalent Smith.

Now they seem to be within $50-$75 of Smith's similar models.

That's a nice gun! I love my older Smiths, but I have a soft spot for any wheel gun or there! As long as they work and shoot straight they're great in my book.

I’d love to hear (or if you’re bored), link me to some comparables

I’d like a Taurus 942 matte 3” 22mag. Seems to be a $325 gun.
Does smith make something in that category? Smith is being an absolute cunt about their 617 22lr

38s and 357s don’t seem to be priced similarly, let alone even available. Maybe I’m wrong

Traded some 7.62x39 for this 686 the other day. Just need to get a new set of grips for it.

Jealous.

A 5 inch 10-5 is one of my grail guns.

That and a 4 or 5 inch Heavy Duty. The .38-44 is a favorite load to me

None of the above, I had a YouTube review on my suggested list and though it looked pretty cool,  so $850 and 5 days later this landed on my ffl’s house. I didn’t see that they made a 460 or I would’ve bought that one.

In a few hours I am starting one of my retirement goals- shooting some casual competition.  This is a revolver match that I don’t really have any gear for, but I do have a well used but not too abused S&W 27-2 with the target trigger/hammer setup.  The gun is a tank and fun to shoot. It is almost retirement age itself as well.  Came from a police seizure sale so I have zero idea on its history.

Never actually carried a revolver(*) except as a “why the hell not” a few times, did teach plenty of basic corrections students on M64’s back over 20 years ago, so we shall see how much I remember...

(*) not quite true- I carried a NAA mini revolver .22  for 20+ years as a deep pocket gun, just in case the G22 and G27 were not available...not sure it counts since I would likely have used a knife over that gun!

Added- also bringing a first of the model year M67 as well for a backup.  It is the one with the stainless sights that everyone wants.  Estate deal with a family friend of my parents a few years back.  My dad got an M19 and I got the 67, they wanted to give them to us free but we insisted they take at least something, so we got them for $250 each.  (Looked like they were shot once then put in a drawer for 45 years....)  Great gun but it needs some trigger spring upgrades before it can be said to have a great trigger.
