Watch the original black and white and the 1982 remake back to back. Good fun.

I loved the 2011 prequel and would even regard it as the "Aliens" of movie prequels. No other prequel comes close to it. Since 1982 we've wondered what horrors happened at the Norwegian camp from a 4 minute scene with Kurt Russel. The Thing '11 finally showed us and tied everything together beautifully. At the end when Lars steps out with the HK33, the Bell 206 takes off, and The Thing opening music came on...I think I had goosebumps!

I'm not happy with the idea of a reboot since there's nothing to improve upon. A sequel with Kurt Russel and Keith David in 1992 would have been interesting, but that time has past. The only way to do the film any sort of justice now would be to adapt the story from the 2003 The Thing video game. The rescue team finally arrives and sifts through the camp, finding MacReady's hidden tape and the wreckage of Blair's craft, and we get to watch them piece the puzzle pieces together until they learn someone in their party isn't who they seem. That could be good, but its pretty thin.

I'm still pissed at Carpenter for "Escape from LA".   So he's invited to enjoy a bowl of dicks.

What why?

I thought it was okay

Ive never seen escape from NY or whatever the first one is

Choke yourself.

It's on Prime. Do yourself a favor before choking yourself.

I saw it in the movie theater at the time. A double feature with Cat People showing first.

I remember the opening for The Thing with the thump thump music and knew it was going to be good! Damn yeah

Mmm, Nastassja Kinski though

Scroll down on this page and there's a video showing the practical effects they originally made which got modified or replaced with CGI.  I wish they had kept them in the film.

I really doubt that Carpenter is going to take a break from getting high, playing video games and making music to return to the director's seat.

Reboot does not necessarily mean remake. I wouldn't mind another The Thing related film.

I saw it when it came out and it scared the shit out of me.

Read the story too, but the movie was scarier.

They already made a prequel in 2011 that bellyflopped like a drunk fat guy into a pool. What makes them think a remake of the original will fare any better?

Awhile ago I watched both of them in a row with my wife who hadn't seen either of them.

I think that I thought they actually did a good job tying in to the old movie and it was good finding out what happened in the other camp before the start of the first movie.

Yes he should see it before choking himself so that he can die with honor.

EFNY is like Star Wars Ep. 4.   Low budget, fairly gritty and dark.

EFLA is like Star Wars ROTJ.   Muppets and silly bullshit.

This.  They have run out of ideas for new movies.  They are rehashing older classics to try and get an audience

i.e., they are too cowardly to try something new and daring.  Could you imagine if Hollywood tried to make The Matrix today?  Studios would be like "nope, too bold and daring.  Give us a guaranteed moneymaker instead."

The only way I could see a Thing reboot is if they picked up at the end of The Thing, where it's Childs and MacReady, they get rescued just before death, and the plot is all about which one of them is The Thing?  But they'd have to CGI the shit out of Keith David and Kurt Russell's faces and it would look shitty.
