Snakes & gators keep to themselves unless cornered / provoked.  ANTIFA ?   Not so much.

The mayor of Seattle and the way she handled CHAD ,or CHAZ, or whatever the fuck they are calling it showed me that.

150 acres in CT?

You basically own the entire state.

I lived in Naples back in the late 60's, but it's a different place now. The population of Florida has grown 10 fold.

Of all the places I've lived over the past 68 years, I still like central Idaho and western Montana best.

Now I'm getting to the point that proximity to a hospital is a consideration. It sucks, but it is what it is.

My family settled VA 1620s and now I have to consider leaving for a freer state.

I do have retirement property in the Rockies (not CO or NM).  We know that will be the safest place one day.

edit- lived in FL as a kid back in the Orange groves.  Too hot but winter was nice.

Lived there for ten days. Stood there and and just soaked it in with my eyes, ears and nose. Suppertime, I requested we move outside just to gawk at the Rembrandt sky show the clouds put on every evening. These events often lasted until late-dark when it was time for the stunning  star show. You chose wisely. Great use of the life granted you.

@saltydecimator

We don’t know where we’re going but somewhere towards the East coast. Our family is growing and we can’t afford a house here. Maybe later in life after careers have progressed we can come back out but you never know.

Our families are in MD and PA. I told my wife we’ll never live in MD again. We’re thinking WV/NC/SC/VA/PA.

goooooootcha

yep i kinda dig the the eastern colorado area, but the price is just too steep for what ya get....

i worked over in MD and PA and WV before.  what ive learned in this short life is that most folks are the exact same coast to coast... prob really clannish/cliqueish, but if you are personable and good at what you do their weirdness/inhospitable wont hinder yer version of happiness...

WV, Worked in Bridgeport, stayed at a no-tell motel, cocaine, white lighting, and poonani was bein bought and sold outta there.  did a saiga conversion in the room before.  couple holes in the roof, noone ever questioned us...

I keep trying to convince my wife that we should retire in Eastern Tennessee. Any tips on what locales are better or worse there? We don't want a neighborhood or subdivision. Prefer someplace with a minimal neighbors but still not expensive.

Any of the counties in East Tennessee probably have locations that would meet those requirements. But I would recommend counties other than Knox, Blount, or Sevier.

I agree with OP.  I grew up in Montana and love it.  Thought that is where I'd move back to in retirement.  Spent 30+ years in Oregon, nice place but never really liked it.  Wife drug me on a cruise to AK (love at first sight!) and this is where we retired to.

I love it here...wish I was younger and had more $ for toys!

Yes.  I grew up in FL and lived in MS for a couple of years (Air Force).  I got stationed in AK in 75 and fell in love with all it's beauty and thought I would never leave.  2016 proved me wrong though.  Wife could not do the dark winters any longer.  TN is now home.

You know there are places you can drive classic cars year round without them falling to dust, right?

I'm sure Ohio has some nice places - I just can't imagine it being THE BEST at anything. I mean, no mountains or beaches nearby. No incredible scenic vistas or grandiose state parks. What is it that you like about Ohio so much?

@ToledoXJ

ETA: Ok, so Traverse City has forests, skiing and a freshwater beach. It does sound better than expected.

Nevermind, my google search returned Traverse City, MI. I don't even see that there is a Traverse City in Ohio. Are you trying to stealthily claim a Michigan city really belongs to Ohio?

I’ll just say it is flat farmland and no trees for a long distance around me. I have to travel a minimum of two hours to get to some terrain slightly different and more like four hours for something I really like.  I sort of feel like I live in a huge parking lot. I like places with hills and trees, or beaches, or anything. I like hunting and the outdoors but there is nothing here to hunt but birds. I have no complaints with the politics of our area the landscape just is so bland.

Honestly the people here are great but I have traveled all over the country for work and I view where I live as one of the most depressing landscapes there is.
