Clearly justified shoot, but it makes me question if they forgot why they were called to the house as they let so much lead fly into the house when there were two people down the hall.

Maybe I am an idiot for questioning why so much lead is flying in so many of these LE shootings, but I grew up the son of a LE Officer who carried a snub nosed 38 for most of his time as an undercover detective. It was only in the final years of his career did he start to carry a S&W automatic with like seven or eight round mag. They were trained to fire two shots center mass and then one to the head if the two did not put the guy down. Back then I just do not recall hearing about officers dumping their entire six rounds at a criminal at one time. Back in the day in my fathers dept they were rewarded with a day off for shooting really well.

Now I understand you shoot until you stop the threat and I understand the stopping power and lethality of handgun rounds, but in some many of these officer involved shootings today they are just letting way to much lead fly. How many rounds did they fire at this guy when there were two people in the line of fire.
Fair enough.  How many rounds should they be allowed to shoot then?
As many rounds as it takes, and no more...into the target and nowhere else.  Did that happen here?

Nah, that’s just the body cam lens distorting the pic a bit.

The second officer is actually about 10ft to the left and slightly in front of the first officer.

The guy didn’t have to pistol whip his family, he didn’t have to answer the door with a pistol, and sure as hell didn’t have to point it at the cops. He killed himself.

Your title is clickbait bullshit and very inflammatory.  Further it's totally wrong.

Lol...

Lmpd cops routinely shoot at a range that I belong to.

Even that close range I'm surprised they hit him that many times.

They generally have a hard time hitting practice targets without any stress.

There's a few of them that I have shot with routinely in competition, USPSA and steel challenge that are pretty good shots, but as a whole the rest not so much.

Revolver dumps happened all the time.

Re the importance of training correctly. In the day of the revolver, dead cops were found with an empty revolver in hand and with six empty cases in their shirt pocket. At the range when training, instead of dumping the fired rounds on the ground and getting on with the reload, they ejected the cases into their hand and put them in a pocket just so they wouldn't have to police up brass. Of course in that day and age most did not use speed loaders. They carried reloads in dump pouches or in loops on the belt.

As for "way too much lead" flying. I'm OK with letting the man (or woman) on the spot decide how much out-going lead is appropriate. As for the woman being endangered, yeah, that's unfortunate but you have to calculate who is in the most danger. Also you can bet this wasn't the first DV incident she experienced with this guy. She should have left long ago.

I've been on a few DV calls. It is quite common that the woman is the instigator, manipulating the man into getting arrested. So often women of a certain economic class call the cops not to save themselves but expect the cops to make the man do what she wants or to "do right". Cops have some really sucky aspects to their job. People that expect cops to do behavior modification on their children or spouse/SO frequently get more than they bargained for.

After the shooting it sounds like the guy says, "Thank fucking God" but it's not clear what he's referring to. The perp getting ventilated? Him and the woman not being hit by the gunfire? From the ex's post it sounds like they had a good inkling of what was going to happen and were happy to see him go.

Yea...that’s ok as long as the cop isn’t in front of the muzzle.

The firing line at the range doesn’t go with you in real life.
