Those pics give me anxiety. Like the guy that swims under the ice holding his breath. No thanks.

I always like Marie threads. They contain a lot of “Nope”, but they’re still interesting!

Love your posts.
Doing an ice rescue refresher class tomorrow. Not excited, it's always super cold. More pics! |

Very cool, your one of the contributors that make this place so cool.

Marie you have come a long way from when you were first thinking about diving. You are nuts to dive under ice though. I don’t like to dive if the water temp is under 65*.
I love the pics of the wrecks you dive on and the info you give on those wrecks. There is a lot of history laying on the bottom of those lakes. |

even with your wetsuit and movement kicking your flippers and all that can you still feel its cold? or are you bundled up enough not to notice?

Heavy fleece undersuit and a heated vest. Gloves and liners under. Yes, you can still feel the cold. But you can go a whole before you ARE cold. Had an ice cream headache the first dive. |

Looks cold!
Devil's lake is where I did my "open water" dives for my certification, way back in the early 80's. Even in the summer the water was wetsuit cold. |

Went ice diving once, back when I was a kid and fairly new to SCUBA. Might have gone more than once, but southern Indiana doesn't really get a buttload of ice.
Went cave diving once too down in FL. Never had much desire to do either again, but I can say that I've done each of them. Be safe, Marie! |

This.

I'll pass thank you.
Looks like you're enjoying it, have fun. |

Nope! I only dive in water so warm that big sharks avoid it, like Cozumel.

I don't want to ever live anywhere that an ice saw is a thing, but that is a really epic day

Full cave next winter! |

Looks like a good day!
I hope you put the ice back in the hole and marked it. Snowmobilers and even foot traffic fall through unmarked spearing holes and die every year. |
|
That is amazing and awesome!
Now I feel like a wimp because I started running my pool heater yesterday to raise it from 72F to 90F by tomorrow |

I've never been out there in winter. I bet that water was beautiful.
|
|
Haven't dove in 35 years, and probably won't again, but always enjoy OP's diving threads, thanks!

Heck no! I've gone diving in the Gulf when it was 32 degrees air temp and in the 50's underwater. No fricken way. Besides I'm sure the shrinkage would be unbearable.
