Your dad had it built for him by his buddy? Who know what kind of weird places he built into it!

fuck me, I'm still alive and have this problem.
Where the hell DID I hide that Glock.... |
I would fab up a metal T out of 3/8 rod with the top of the T 22" , go up in the attic grab the bottom of the T and shove the 22" piece down in the insulation , between the trusses until I hit Sheetrock then drag it until I found the gun .

Do you have a 14 year old son? Tell him there is cool gun hidden somewhere in the house. Go to Ryan's Steakhouse for dinner. By the time you get home, he'll have the gun, a stack of Playboys, 2 roaches, and a vibrator stacked up on the coffee table for you.
Has anyone mentioned pulling the medicine cabinets yet? Usually you can remove 2 screws and the whole thing pulls out.

Please please please... If it is fiberglass insulation, please wear a suitable dust mask when disturbing it.
You might think nobody is stupid enough to not know this, but I know a very intelligent guy who didn't. He came to work all itchy and complained about his lungs hurting after removing old and installing new insulation. Shit can cause silicosis. |
Just use a long-handle, three-tine soil cultivator and drag it through the insulation.
The tines are widely-spaced (as opposed to a rake) and shouldn't displace the insulation too much. Be careful when you hit resistance so you don't damage any electrical cables or piping. |
Good way to find electrical wiring in a house on a slab.
I'd see if you can rent a thermal imaging camera, myself. One with a decent size screen.

I’d use a big magnet from below, where it sticks to the ceiling the gun or box is above. 1/2” Sheetrock is no problem for a big retrieval magnet

Feel the tops of the doors for a compartment.
Check the fronts of built in cabinets for panels that come off. |

I can relate to this thread. Family story has a 9mm auto stashed in a house. The man that stashed it is long dead, and it was in his mothers house, and she's long dead and the house has been sold 2x since. If it's where the story has it, it'll never be found until the place is torn down, heavily remodeled, or burns unless you know it's there. Have thought about waiting for it to go up for sale and hope for an open house and to be left alone for the 5-10 minutes to retrieve it, but not worth becoming a thief to recover it - even worse if the story is false. View Quote Lots of people would take that offer. |

Did you check in the pockets of any coats hanging in closets?

Your dad sounds like he was cool AF. I have a vacation home near Yuma. When I kick off, my son is going to shit his pants when he opens the safe and looks through all the hiding places. Plus there's about $8k US worth of pesos. I hope he spends the money wisely at the whorehouse in Los Algodones. View Quote |

OST. My stepdad told me that there was a .45 muzzleloader stashed in his attic somewhere but I’ve never bothered looking for it.
Base boards...that and look around and ask yourself were you'd hide shit. Also look for signs in closets of new dry wall.
Built for him.....
Start measuring adjoining rooms and closets to make sure they’re all the same size. Look for a thick wall or a small closet. Do the same in all the cabinets. |
Did you look inside of the A/C air handler case in the attic? There is a lot of open unused space in it.
If you have any AZ Arfcom types you trust, you could have them hunt for it if you don't locate it.
I propose using a thin metal rod, but stiff, for probing into the insulation. Like a real long screwdriver or similar. You might be able to tell when it hits wood/drywall vs. a soft gun case.

Thermal imaging spotter ? Black light to see if he left any clues written on the walls ?

behind double ganged electrical boxes, kitchen hood, the space between the double sink.

Does he have any scrap ends of appropriately sized and unexplainable PVC pipe and caps laying around the house?
If so, it may be.....cached....around the property... or, in 77 years, the news of the day will be the equivalent of this https://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2005/04/14/Historic-Tommy-gun-found-in-wall/55051113502020/ https://www.buzznick.com/hidden-basement-room/ |

Look in the space below the cabinets? Check all the boards underneath them all, maybe one is loose. My grandma hid money under the bathroom vanity there.
She made sure to show me just in case. I was the only one who knew. Her surviving daughter was glad. |
Damn, I would have never thought to hide something in the return air vents. However so many people mentioned it, it seems like it might not be a great place. lol
This thread has me wondering how good is a "search warrant" search? Do they go into attics and search through insulation. Do they remove the vent covers and look behind cabinets and all the other places mentioned here? Say it is a really important murder case of something. Do they look in every possible place? How long does it typically take? More than a single day? |
I saw a guy hide cash below a sink. There was a hole in the sink in the back and he would stick it in the hole and it was basically on the counter but covered up by the sink. I thought that was a pretty good spot.

Possibly a floor safe or spot in the floor that is covered up? Maybe a false wooden floor hatch somewhere?
Is it tied to one of the rafters, perhaps on the backside where it isn't easily seen? |
Go to the sporting goods store and buy a tent. The one with the most poles. Then start fishing in holes.

I've got a leather chair that could eat three or four full size shotguns and I wouldn't have a clue until i actually had to lift it for some reason .

Metal detector.
Even if he hid it next to a truss plate it will give a higher signal than the rest of them, |
Divining rods. I know it sounds insane but a friend showed me it works. Buried valve was being looked for. It did not cross for pipes to and from. Only crossed for the valve he was looking for. Swore he saw a teacher demonstrate looking for hidden objects not connected to water in any way and it still worked.

Not really, but I had been thinking if the gov really came looking how do you hide one where they can't find it..I figure they would be using a metal detector so wood walls and sheetrock won't hide it, but the appliances..yeah not much chance they would think of it.... ETA: Another good spot is the furnace where the filters go...real easy access but still well hidden....especially with a big magnet.... View Quote |

It’s in the Vase on the right next to the washboard tub on the pot shelf...third one over...no...your other right...
