My Ares lower has been siting down at the shop for a few weeks. I finally made it down this morning to pick it up. When I first seen these I was hesitant to try one but figured why not. So I assembled an upper this afternoon and got the gun ready to shoot. Will sight in and shoot it tomorrow.

This lower has the updated 5lb trigger which is nice but hopefully there is an aftermarket one available soon. The trigger and the no bolt hold open/release are my only real complaints.

Here's a few pics of the upper build and finished product.

I would rather not post what I paid for it as I got it at cost from a friend that owns a guns shop. The rail is a 15" 2A Armament M-Lok.

Rail looks great.
Decent sight picture/ cheek weld?

Dang! I actually kind of dig that!

They need a .308 version, for sure.

What does the bolt/carrier look like?

Believe it or not, it's perfect for me. I would also add that a side charging upper would probably be better as I have hit my hand every time with charging handle(I guess I've been messing with AR's for too many years).

That is a beauty OP.  How are the ergonomics with that lower compared to a standard AR platform?

More and more I'm thinking I need to buy one of these rifles.

Might make a nice gun to introduce east coasters to the modern rifle world without scaring them off by being too tactical.

Good looking gun, OP!

Edit: What stock height did you pick? I can't decide between the two Ares offers.

It's a standard BCG that's been modified. It comes unassembled, you you need a firing pin, bolt, etc. The pin that holds the rat tail on is also the firing pin retainer.

Thanks, as far as the stock height I'm not really sure. I didn't know they offered 2. I would assume mine was the standard Monte Carlo stock.

Believe it or not it's an old Troy industries wrench I had in my drawer. It locks up on your guys barrel nut perfectly. I've built 4 guns using 2A rails and it's been flawless.

I want to get one of those lowers to do a precision 6.5 Grendel build.

ETA - I read the stock feels kind of crappy, as in low quality. Is this true?

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I'm sure they will be a big hit in ban states.

I'm not in one of those states but decided to try one anyway.

What's a mini 30 cost?
These are like $800+, right? $499 for the lower.

Mini-30 with the threaded barrel runs about $800-850, but won't be as accurate as one of the Ares.

$675 and it'd be a mini30 killer

I want to pick one up as soon as I have the disposable cash. Maybe next spring.

Even without the NY laws I would still want one. I love monte carlo stocks for hunting.

Dam OP, out of the numerous builds you've done. This one, is my favorite. I'm guessing because it just looks more different than the usual build posted on here. I'm sure a few will like Medicfrost's version more, not me. It looks like a modern AR take on an M14. Pretty Nice !

This is on my short list.

I plan to move my 18" SPR barrel over to it since I'm going short with my ARs now.

I also have a Norinco AK Hunter with a 20" barrel to go along side it...both should be 50 state legal with 5-round mags.

Yep.

Retaining the AR's most awkward feature - on a design that emphasizes familiar ergos - seems strange.
