Well the interwebs was mostly bbs boards and playing warcraft 2 against my neighbor and I think 28.8 modems so I didn't have much in the way of an internet addiction at your age, probably spent at most 30 minutes a day looking at a couple different boards. Although at the time I was going to school and working 12 hour days alternating 3 days one week, 4 days next, so I was often to exhausted to do much interwebbing. I guess I'm asking unless you're running some kind of seedbox out of the basement, and that's cool if you are, but how are you able to spend that kinda time/gigs?
I mean unless your dad is sick or something and needs you there you should be working your way into you and your gf having your own place no? |

Long story short: We went over our internet data limit of 250 GB already for this month. ISP will charge my dad $10 per 50GB we are over our limit. Last month it was 368GB total usage. So I'm hoping just $20 and not $30. We can upgrade our service for $20 more per month to 100 MBPS and 450GB limit.- I didn't tell my dad this yet. I'm a full time college student and I live at home with my parents, and they are nice enough to give me $100 a week spending money. So how do I go about asking my dad to upgrade the internet plan? Nicely ask if he can just take the $20 a month out of what he gives me? I think Netflix and Youtube are the main source of data overages. My girlfriend and I like to watch a lot of Netflix shows. I work from home and stream video 8-16 hours a day, everyday. My data usage runs between 250 & 300 GB a month.
Have you considered leaving the house at some point? |
|
|
Wow, what I would do with 250 gigs per month. I'm on satellite where my plan is 12 gigs a month and after that your speed slows down.

OP, it's time to limit your online habits. Your father let's you stay at his home, pays for everything and on top of that you receive a weekly allowance. That's very generous of him.
At the very least you should respect the data limit and not cause any additional charges. If you do it's time for you to either get a job or return some of your allowance to him to cover the data charges. A friendly, "Dad, I'm sorry. I caused the data charges. Here's $40 to pay this month's extra charges. I apologize for this and I appreciate you paying the bills here." will go a long way. As a side note, after school and army I moved out. Overseas no less. But that's another story entirely... Do right by your Dad. No freeloading. Good luck. |

Uh, I'm more worried you have a data limit on wired internet. WTF is that shit?????????? It's coming to everyone. Most isp's have suspended the caps but are starting to enforce them. Yep. I've got xfinity. They have a 250 GB limit but it's been suspended for quite some time. I did see recently that they're going to tweak the plan a little bit and start enforcing it in select areas to test it though. It'll be everywhere soon. I'm pretty much right at around 320 GB a month on average, so I'm sure I'll be paying a bit more, but what can you do. |

I suspect most of the posters in this thread have data limits they just don't know what they are or have never reached them. The limit is in the very fine print. Almost all broadband plans have them they are just really high like in the hundreds of gigs.

Quoted: There's a word for what you're feeling. Entitled. That you don't feel guilt for blowing through your data limit and costing your father more money is telling. You should be apologizing, not scheming on how to get more. View Quote Sub is correct, OP. You're cavalier attitude and sense of entitlement is beyond sickening. I enlisted when I was 18. My successes and my failures are my own; no one paid my way through anything. You can make it on your own as well. It just takes growing up and start earning your own keep. If nothing else, instead of asking him for more, how about you thank your Dad for your soft and easy life. The man deserves far more than you give him, it seems. |
