Look out, that is not a meat tree, it is a ham bush!

We usually drive to the mountains and go to a choose-and-cut lot to get our tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving. During that next week we put up the lights and decorations. Christmas is my family's favorite time of the year and we really like having the house decorated for Christmas. If I've got to drag out all of the Christmas decorations and put them up, I want them up for more than two weeks. I like keeping them up, at least inside the house, until Epiphany after the 12 Days of Christmas...though I do feel kind of weird since most people seem to take them down before that around here. We generally try to keep things classy and Christ-focused rather than commercial at Christmas. We don't do the lawn inflatables and Santa Clauses everywhere...we tend to stick to greenery and lights and a nativity.

I always liked to put it up in 1st or 2nd week in December, along with the outside decorations.  When we purchased our new house my wife has now decided that the weekend after thanksgiving will now begin the decorating season.  This year we put everything up early because my oldest is leaving for Air Force BMT on the 5th of Dec.

I didn’t get to do that this year because I was traveling but that’s normally when ours goes up

Christmas sucked in my house when I was a kid and I hated it as an adult because of that too

Then I married a wonderful woman who didn’t grow up in a house with cancer and abusive alcoholism and I was hell bent and determined that my kids would know only joy at that time of year

So if I want to put it up on the 4th of July I will and there is fuck all you can do to stop me
