Why? 6.8, a few Super Short magnums...why?
eta Heck I for got the Bushmaster .450, it has a bit of energy. |
Geeze, just what we need, another round.
I think I will wait about 10 years and see if its still being made before I even think about buying one. |
It smokes the 6.8! It looks like nearly 300 ft-lbs more energy
Can't blame them for trying..
This kind of stuff is what keeps the industry going. |
Why not just make a "+P" loaded Czech 7.62x45, taking advantage of all the surplus out there, and call it a day?
So it's basically a light recoil 308? I know guys that hunt with 7.62x39 uppers with good results, this would presumably have better bullets, so even if the power is about the same it should be an okay carbine for deer.
x2. So what if no one buys it. If everyone had the same mentality as most people here, nothing new would be put in the market. They tried something new, so what? |
Looking at the cartridge drawing in the updated post, it looks like some genius took the .450 Bushmaster and necked it down to .308 Wonder how long the bolts will last?
I am trying to envision a .30 cal 125gr bullet at a claimed 2800 fps that will fit in a normal AR sized upper. Remember that a 223 has a 45mm case length and the 7.62x39 is 39 mm long and is a 30 cal usually shooting a 123 gr bullet at about 2300 fps. I would like to see the dimensions of the new Remington round to see how they did it.
It is superior to the 7.62 x 39. With a 125 grain bullet, 2700 FPS. That is MUCH FASTER, Less body taper means it should extract better (read Parker Ackley's works for the reason why). |
I am still not sure why they didn't just do some more work on the 6.8 SPC, which is shaping up surprisingly well.
This just enables the idea of "common usage" and preventing further ideas for the possibility of a new AWB. Keep the rounds coming wether there are something i like or not. |
yep. but the 6.5 might possibly be too long on this case. as long as we're wishing, I'd like a 7mm, please... |
It does explain why Remmington tried to sabotage th 6.8 SPC.
Exactly. I hope they make one in blued steel with walnut furniture. Make it a fudd gun, whatever it takes. |
Not a bad idea, It is easier to argue against a ban when Remington (read: a big employer in America) is actively creating cartridges for their own "hunting" version of the AR-15. Whether you like the new cartridge or not, this is a good thing. ETA: after reading the article, I am thinking this will be a better round for Hogs than what is currently available in the AR platform. |
Every hunter here should kill a deer this fall with an AR and post the photos on this site. The more cartridges, the better. You guys with AK's and SKS's can whack them, too. |
Just to make it clear to you speed readers. When he says "whack them and post pics," he's talking about killing deer. |
didn't thompson center develop the ".30TC" for use in the ICON bolt action rifle? i don't think it gained any traction beyond that one rifle.
so, is the only upper to ever use this going to be the camo non-AR AR remington sells? |
Not really it solves the issue of wanting to hunt with an AR15 but not wanting to hunt with .223 |
Remington seems to try real hard to sabotage everything they make. But this does seem like a surprisingly good idea from them. We'll have to see if they back it up with decent factory support. |
That seems very likely. |
I think a good way to keep the industry going would be to produce lots of cheap .223, 7.62x39, 9mm, etc... Naw, on second thought, who'd ever buy and blow through cases of cheap, common caliber ammo? They should only produce common calibers with exotic packaging for $4 per round, and come out with lots of other weird calibers suitable for... well, I have no idea... but that would keep the industry going for sure!!! Thank God for Russia... I guess. |
No but this gives the Fud something to use. Whether you and I see it that way is one thing, but if they see it as another...and keeps their heads in the game...I'm game. |

I see little win on this one. Seems like it will be stuck with a light bullet do to OAL limitations - and I suspect mag capacity will be neutered as well. It is a different bullet, not a replacement for the 6.8spc. It might be great for some, but not the end all be all of ar varients.
that's the major limiting factor in 6.8. You're limited to maybe 120gr tops due to OAL. I'd imagine a similar size limitation to 30rem. another problem is that relatively speaking you're pushing more mass with basically the same sized cartridge (and thus similar powder charge). sounds like 6.8 is the better deal there. |
im going to pass until they make it in a super short ultra mega compact super ultra magnum
I have an original .30 Remington, sounds like the ballistics aren't far off either...
There's a bunch more technical info here on the .30 RAR for those guys who are interested.
Well if I shoot a Deer with my AR and posted Pics the State of Ohio might use that against me in a court of law Sometimes I wish we could use a Rifle legally in Ohio |
I plan on doing that, just need to pick up a 5 round mag. |
I guess they're trying to market these to Fudd types that don't want to shoot 'the puny tumbling-outta-the-barrel round that killed all our boys in VN' or other 'militaruh calibers'.
I wish the would have pushed the 6.8 instead. Either way, if it gets more people shooting ARs it's good for everyone. |
You do if you want to hunt with the AR in some states. |
Why? When you can have a .50 Beawulf, .458 SOCOM, or .45 Bushmaster - all of which are more powerful than a .410 slug. |
Didn't somebody make a side feeding 7.62x51 upper for the AR to get around magwell length limitation?
I've seen a belt fed 7.62x51 upper which fed from the side like you described. Basically it used the lower as a trigger group. |
Yup, can't hunt with a 5.56 AR in KS. |
Any move to further mainstream the AR platform into the hunting world seems beneficial to me.
I've wanted an upper in 7mm TCU for years, but to my knowledge no one makes it yet. |
