Nissan has been circling the drain precariously since the late 80’s/early 90’s. They nearly lost their Tokyo headquarters in 1995. In the late 90’s, they flooded the market with cheap leases created by inflating lease-end values. They’ve been selling cheap junk to the ghetto segment of the market ever since.

The best vehicle I have ever owned (and still drive) is a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder SE. Bought it used in 2008. Paid off by 2010.

They screwed up when they redid the Pathfinder, should have gone retro and made it look more like the late 80's ones.
Change the name of the Armada to the Patrol like it should be. Bring over a stripped-down lightweight version of the Fairlady. Oh, yeah, Bring back Carlos. |

Quoted: I miss my Xterra. Wish they would re-release those but they'd probably screw them up. My 2011 Frontier just turned 211,000, and is one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. View Quote I really liked the Xterra design a lot, but that was the worst vehicle I've ever owned. It was the most complete bag of shit quality components I've ever seen. And to top it off Nissan didn't stand behind it at all. Their absolute refusal to issue recalls made I'd very clear I would never own another Nissan again. Fortunately for me 4Runners exist, and are superior to the Xterra in every way that matters. I agree with you that they'll probably mess up a new one, maybe we'll see someday. But it'll still be a Nissan, meaning it will never be in my garage. |

30 years ago their pathfinder and maxima were kick ass and could go toe to toe with Honda and Toyota.
Ten to twenty years ago the X-Terra was a viable option compared to a FJ Cruiser or 4Runner. I don’t recall the exact details, but the went from a - get a Honda or Toyota model competitor that’s a great deal for less or better at the same model money- And purposefully threw it way with a plan to capture the black market. With some other issues like chasing segments without a lot of interest. They lost desirable market segments and lost brand desirability. They could have revamped the X-terra platform into a removable door and front roof panel with a rear mounted barn door spare - Or kept the pathfinder a real SUV 4Runner competitor and done it with that. Instead of being the darling of the low finance score / high repo rate market and killing more up market interest. |

Used to have a 1997 Maxima. Best car ever made. SAE chose its DOHC V6 as "one of the 10 best engines in the world." Put 250K miles on it.
Also went through a couple of Xterras. Damn things were indestructible, were popular with Death Valley off-roaders. Xterras were more trucks than cars; they were built on the Titan chassis. Nissan got pussified and killed them All gone. Yeah, Nissan is history. |

We drove it diagonally across this country twice. One trip it cost us $98 in fuel to go from here to Calgary Alberta. It was also very comfortable. Had 100X more fun in my 1971 Datsun 510 though, that car had tons of practice teaching me how to power slide on windy gravel roads. Rolled it once, popped the roof back up in the rear and got a used back window from a junk yard. Put another 20,000 miles on it before I sold it. LOL |

If Nissan is doomed they need to go out with a bang and make the car we all want but no one will actually buy.
Put the GT-R powertrain in an Infinity sedan(or better yet wagon) and offer a manual(or better MT only). Make it not ugly and it would be a M3/5 killer. |
|
Guess I better pull the trigger on a GT-R now and park it.
Sell it off in a few years and retire. |

Nissan died in 2006 when they stopped offering manuals in the Maxima. It's been rental car grade garbage since then.

A R31 A Honeybee And a obd1 era President. |

I have absolutely no idea what they are doing with the Z. It's a good car. It's priced reasonably well for where it sits performance-wise. It looks good. Yes, it reuses a lot from the 370Z, but that's okay, and expected given Nissan's budget constraints for a low-volume sports car.
They just completely bungled the launch and aren't attempting to produce them in any quantity. I still have yet to see one, and I go to local Cars & Coffee events pretty often. It's like they don't actually want to sell the car. |
