I think Belichick is still a dangerous coach, and I was dreading the possibility of him coming to the AFC West, but he does have downsides, and I could see an argument for hiring Vrabel over him. I thought Vrabel would get the Pats job, and I thought his traits made him a good solution to the problems in Atlanta and Carolina, but all three teams chose options I think are a lot more questionable. |

Quinn is Rivera 2.0. I can understand hiring a defensive coach, but it makes little sense when the skins wanted an offensive guy. And, you go defense, but you don’t entertain Belichick or Vrabel? There’s no world where Quinn is better than those two. Same clown show in Washington. What a disappointment. |

View Quote I'm not sure what Vrabel's ceiling is, but he usually coached tough teams, and they seemed to outperform the talent on the roster. If you have a stable franchise that's stagnant and you want to take it to the next step (Seattle), I'm not sure you should call Mike Vrabel. If your football team is a disgusting smoking toilet of a franchise (Carolina, Atlanta, and Vegas), and you want a guy to come in, cut through the BS, and fix it, Mike Vrabel is probably a guy you should have called. Predicting the success of rookie coaches is hard (I was wrong about LaFleur, Stefanski, and Campbell), but I'd be very surprised if more than one of those three teams hired HCs better than Vrabel. |

I'm not a fan of Vrabel--I've seen some bad clock management and in-game decisions in every Titans game I've seen, maybe 7-8. But the best explanation is that there wasn't a job he was sold on, and another 8 teams will be looking next year that might be a better fit. |

At this point Vrabel is the better choice, but second rate GMs are afraid of hearing all the criticism that they hired a Great Value BB instead of the real deal. You know the Cowherd and Bayless types will relentlessly criticize them if they don’t win immediately for that choice. A smart GM will pick Vrabel but these aren’t smart GMs. |

View Quote Kind of the same reason why Detroit lost to the '49ers on Sunday. Terrible choices by the coaching staff. Atlanta should have snapped the ball with one second left on the play clock three successive times as they ran dives. Even if they didn't gain a single yard, they'd have run 45 seconds off the clock each play (unless NE called timeout, which they had three at the time). Either way, you'd leave the Patriots with no timeouts and then proceed to kick a FG with 2:00 left, now up by 10 points. Game over. Statistically, there was no reason whatsoever for Atlanta to lose that game. Not a single one. They broke the mold for "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory." ETA: I just looked, and on the big play to Julio Jones on the sideline...Matt Ryan snapped the ball with 13 seconds left on the play clock. |

Ravens have promoted Zach Orr to DC.
Orr (31) is a former Ravens player turned coach. Coaching history: BAL Defensive Analyst 2017-20 JAX OLB Coach 2021 BAL ILB Coach 2022-23 Basically, was an intern for 4 years. Then he went from a linebacker coach to defensive coordinator after just 3 seasons. That's a quick rise. Will make note to see what happens with him in the next couple years. Edit: Was a UFA LB for the Ravens. Played less than 150 defensive snaps in 2014 and 2015. His playtime and performance exploded in 2016 when he made it as an AP2. Played 98% of the snaps that season with 3 INTs, 5 PD, 1 FF, 2 FR and 133 tackles. Was revealed he has a congenital spine issue and was forced to retire for medical reasons. Immediately made an intern for the Ravens after that. |

Former Colts CB Isaiah Rodgers Sr., who placed hundreds of bets in amounts worth $25-$50 that led to his suspension from the NFL and subsequent release from the Colts last summer, spoke with ESPN's Outside the Lines which will air during multiple editions of SportsCenter on ESPN tomorrow. Some quotes from an early release of the segment:
Stated that a friend of his used his account to make a bet on Jonathan Taylor (which paid out) while he was warming up on the field before a Colts game in 2022. "Once my phone was geotagged from the first bet, I have to take accountability for every bet." Said he started betting for his friends and family who live in Florida (no legal sportsbook app gambling). "I never included myself into any of the gambling. I never took any dollar. I never took a dollar for me. I never placed a bet for me to win." Admitted to having and using two different cellphones and making bets from the Colts facilities. "I knew the rules. I knew I wasn't supposed to do it. I have to take what comes with it." He ended up losing out on $2.8 million of his $3.4 million rookie contract as a result of his suspension and release. "I question myself, too. I thought I probably wouldn't get caught. I wouldn't get in trouble. I was just being a good-hearted person, trying to help people. It will never happen again. Never." |
