Surprised at all the hate towards one of only 3 recording artists to have sold more then 100 million albums (solo and as lead singer of a group), the other two being Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. Followed closely by Slim Whitman and Boxcar Willie .... |

This sounds a bit like a GD "I'm leaving forever!" post. Why does he need to announce this, except in hopes of generating "No, Phil, don't quit!" responses. I think he made a lot of good music (and some shitty music, too), but if you're going to quit the business, it seems like you could do that by, well, just not making any more music.

Sucks! Lot of great memories growing up with his music. I didn't know about the Alamo collection which looks awesome!
I don't really get the hate for Phil as only an idiot wold argue the talent that he has shown for decades... |

If you hold thousands of concerts for 50K fans each, over 30 years, and then one day stop, I suspect people might wonder why. |

Paul McCartney sucks too. I don't like his music I don't like him as a person. He is a schmuck of the highest order and a lame 3chord formula musician who plays to people high on geritol lusting after their days watching him shake his hair on the Ed Sullivan show 50 years ago. Jackson was a strange pedophile with lots of money to indulge in his boy-rape fantasies. His family is a long list of dirtbags and hanger-ons. I agree with this post but would add all of the Beatles work. |

Well bye. He was one of the most talented and prolific performers of the 20th Century, dude. His music is timeless, IMO. Still fresh, still outstanding even today. One of Genesis' best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1LOWEufAH0 |

Phil is wrong about one thing. People will miss him. At least the people who actually have good taste in music and an appreciation for actual talent anyway. Phil Collins has more talent in his pinky finger than many of today's "stars" have in their entire body. Absolutely. Yep. Since when does a drummer replace the lead singer and actually improve the quality of the band? |

So many movies in the 80's had his music in the sound track. Whenever I hear anything by him those memories comes back. Some good, some bad, but all of them mine.

I agree with him. Most of what passes for mainstream music today is shit. I don't participate in much of it either.

I will miss his music.
A few years ago he put together a full orchestra and toured with what he called "The Phil Collins Big Band". Even released at least one album from it. He is a suprememely gifted musician who proved he could transcend multiple genres successfully. Far, far more talented than just about anything coming out today. -Gator |

"If you have ever been to one of his concerts, you know that he is one of the greatest musical entertainers this past century.
Often, nostalgia clouds our judgement, and things we remember from 10-20 years ago weren't really all that great. I don't think that applies to Phil Collins/Genesis' music." I agree completely...150 million albums is not bad music but a great musician. |

I always like Genesis. Phil Collins solo kind of sucked
This song still makes me smile. Illegal Alien |

I really like his music but I honestly thought he packed it in around 1990-91.
Seemed to just drop off the face of the earth. Oh well, enjoy retirement Phil. |

Love or hate McCartney, he's pretty famous for using a hell of a lot more than three chords. Do a chord count on even some of this lesser known songs like "You Never Give Me Your Money" on the B side of Abbey Road sometime. |
