I thought they were converting to M4/16 rifles?

I guess having the Russian situation made them go with what they have in the pipeline.

The Polish Armed Forces has placed its largest ever order for small arms, ordering over 26,000 Beryl rifles from Fabryka Broni Lucznik Radom.

Worth PLN156 million (USD39.4 million), the contract includes the delivery of 17,621 wz. 96C Beryl assault rifles and 8,400 wz. 96C Mini Beryl carbines between 2016 and 2019.

The order is the largest single firearms contract signed by Poland since 1990 and the biggest since Fabryka Broni Lucznik Radom was founded in 2000.

The wz. 96 Beryl assault rifle and short-barrelled wz. 96 Mini Beryl carbine fed in 5.56x45 NATO were introduced in 1998 to replace 5.45x39 wz. 88 Tantal, 7.62x39 mm AK/AKM rifles in the Polish Army.

Hmm.  Wonder what this does for their import plans for the MSBS, the rifle Radom hoped Poland would adopt to replace the Beryl.

Could be good news for us since the last I heard they were going to push hard for us export sales after the polish trials were done and a rifle was picked.

I think the plan is to eventually go to the domestically produced MSBS rifle, but that's delayed because it's part of some larger grand scheme for re-equipping the Polish army. They've picked up some bad American defense contractor habits.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FB_MSBS

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/02/10/msbs-greenlit-adoption-pending-polish-state-trials-ahead-titan-program/

The Polish government has greenlit the adoption of the MSBS rifle platform, pending state tests of the weapon, ahead and independent of the larger scope rearmament program “Titan” (sometimes also rendered “Titanium”). The reason for this is the much higher level of development of the MSBS system versus other components of the Titan program, however before MSBS is adopted it will still have to pass all the standards set by the Titan program.

Radom plans on releasing a US semiauto version made at their Texas point of presence, but all that is hung up until the Polish army actually accepts it.

If I were them I would go with a domestically produced rifle over an imported one any day as long as it meets my requirements. I am not a big fan of relying on toher countries providing weapons for my military.

Yeah but a low tech item like a MBR is pretty safe as long as its in a standard caliber. Its not like the Russians can cut them off on rifles to make them change policy. Its the high tech stuff that makes that possible.

Why not the MSBS? I though that was being adopted soon. Maybe they just need more guns immediately due to the Russian invasion scenario.

 Cost,plain and simple.

ETA: buying more Krab 155 SPH,Rak 120 SPM and Langusta MLRS are more valuable than spending money on new rifles. Russia still has a fuckton of tubes, their strengths are their PVO and quantity of artillery.

They're using Leo 2s now, I've seent it.

The issue I've always raised whenever I've talked to the Poles has been mag interchangeability with other NATO forces. Also the fact that they use bmp-1s which when I saw I column of them I wanted to pull the triggers on my Abrams because of training lol

Royal Tiger sold a ton of them for $700 a few months back.

Unfortunately like the jerkbags they are, the sale started off with the rifles including the removable rail, collapsible stock, and I think 4 mags. They quickly revised their offer and started shipping without the rail, and with the piece of shit I.O. Inc clubfoot stock, and with one mag. Then all of that stuff showed up, unsurprisingly, as "accessories" on their site.

Shitty importers like Royal Tiger/I.O. are why we can't have nice things like the full-featured Beryl.
