What did you have it torqued to? That's probably an application where it's warranted. View Quote The instructions specifically said to not use thread locker. I should have just used it from the get go but went with their specs. |

Anyone who watches Project Farm knows Loctite brand is the crappiest thread locker.

Sort of a hijack here:
I plan install a trailer hitch to our SUV and there is lots of dirt and dried mud in the frame holes. What is the best way to clean the threads and prep the holes prior to installing the bolts with blue thread locker? Just use a degreaser? |

I follow manufacturers' directions. If they say to use it, I do. If they don't, I don't.

I PUT LOCTITE ON MY CAPS LOCK AND E KEYS |

‘Fess up. Who amongst us puts torque seal on things that don’t need it?

I put some red loctite on my suppressor height Glock sights. Changing out my slide and was curious if I needed a torch or anything...was able to remove both front and rear as if the loctite was never applied.

I always use some sort of threadlocker... Have bounced between Vibra-tite, Loctite (never the red stuff ) and Rocksett. It all generally gets the job done.
Really don't get the logic behind NOT using a tiny drop on things you don't want to come off... "muh proper torque value tho" Definitely seen shit back out despite being properly torqued. Vibration + temperature change is a bitch like that. |

Having watched all kinds of optics, lasers, etc. fall off peoples guns I say put more loctite on things.

I want a Locktite scented air freshener. Or even those scentsy wax things

I use it for every fastener. Heat gun makes loosening no big deal.

I've had scope rings torqued to spec with an in/lb driver come loose. Now, if I don't want it to come off, it typically gets a dab of Rocksett, sometimes blue loctite if that's what I have handy.

I’m sure there are times it’s not needed but is applied, but I’d wager it’s far more common that it IS needed but ISN’T applied. I use rocksett around suppressors and gas blocks, vibratite around (especially handgun) optics, and blue wherever else.

I use blue Loctite regularly. I have a tube of red Loctite that I put a piece of masking tape on and wrote "DO NOT USE" on, so when I do use it, I take a minute to think "Do you REALLY want to do this"? View Quote |
