Things I liked:
Everything seemed to look used and dated like the original trilogy (Ep. 4-6), not shiny and new like the most recent three abortions.
Stormtroopers stacked up to air assault some rebel scum
X-wing shot was stupendous.
The Millenium fucking Falcon doing its thing with that John Williams score blaring made the trailer for me.
The Sith shot was pretty cool, but...

Stupid shit:
Not a huge fan of that light saber
That fucking droid
That giant ass speeder

Overall, I give it a 6.5 and will keep my hopes up.

ETA:  I was born in October of 1981.

I was born in 77.  I thought the teaser was all right.  Let's be honest, the original movies have their issues.  Bad acting, goofy dialogue, thin story, etc.  Don't get me wrong, I love the old ones too, and the prequels were steaming piles of dog shit.  At least we're getting Lucas-free movies since he is clearly way past being able to make anything worth watching.

When we have a trilogy like Star Wars and new directors and producers take it over, the whole look and and feel of the series changes.

Like the 007 movies, when the new producer came out of Casino Royale, the gimmicky cheesy Bond was a thing of the past and Bond became the dark character that Ian Flemmimg originally intended.

I could be wrong about this new Star Wars, maybe it won't suck. I don't have my hopes up.

I was born in 74' , my folks took me to see the original in a drive in theater. It did have its flaws, but it was what it was and yes the prequels were steaming piles of shit.

If you are gonna design a new lightsaber to be different at least have it not be stupid.

I had the exact same thought, the cross guard blades would have to come directly out of the body of the lightsaber to be effective

From what I saw on my phone. The addition to the sith lightsaber looked like mini force pikes, like the weapons the royal guards use, or greviouses droids.

Loving it.

I'm trying not to, but damn seeing tattoine with the probe droid sounds was awesome.

The XWings look excellent. The sith looks like he just has raw anger.

The soccer ball robot was the weakest part, but ex useable.

The voice sounded like Benedict Cumberbatch, anyone confirm?

Every Star Wars fan in the galaxy has reason to be skeptical after the childhood raping we received last time.  The shot of the X-wings blasting across the water gave me hope.  None of the rest bothered me.  It's just a movie.  I can never relive 1977 as a 5 year old but I can do the next best thing.  Next year my kids will be 5 and 3.5.  They already love the Star Wars Rebels cartoon.  They will love this new movie regardless of how it turns out and that's all that really matters to me.

Yeah pomell/handguard fail. I did like the 'rougher' appearance of the blade itself though.

I dunno why everyone is flying 3 feet off the ground, but dramatic footage, I guess. I'm also kind of curious how it's been 30 years, but the ships look the same. (I mean, YES! The ships look the SAME!) but at the same time....did technology stop developing when the Emperor died?

I am going with the rebels are still the underdog and have to keep a literal low profile and have to maintain a now ancient fleet of starfighters to fight the new Empire/Alliance/Jedi Order. I did note the Falcon has a different radar dish after the old one got knocked off at Endor...and yeah, that scene along with the stormtroopers in the assault ship and the TIEs Howling scream suddenly turned the calendar back to '77 for me!

Beachball droid better not be the New JarJar.

I also realized this means I have One Year to build my TIE Fighter Pilot suit for the premier!

I loved how "furious" that sith blade seemed, hissing and flashing. That isn't something I'd want to fight against. And the sith guy was walking with that, "I'm a badass MFer, come get some" gait. Looks awesome.

Agreed on the rougher looking blade. Seems "meaner". The handguard beams might not work for blocking other saber blows, but they do look neat and give it a Crusader sword kind of look.

Technology wise, if the galaxy has descended into chaos, then tech development could be at a crawl or standstill. (no idea if that's true, just pondering)

Beachball droid might work out, I don't think (PRAYING) that there isn't anything close to another Jar Jar shittybinks.

If you count all the expanded universe stuff like the comics and Knights of the old Republic games as canon then the technology in the SW universe hasn't really progressed very much in thousands of years.

That's a very short clip of what is probably a 2 hour movie. If all of his other films are evidence, anything in space pointed past a star or on a planet with the sun out will most likely have them. ETA: Forgot that many light sources will have them as well. That clip might not even be finished yet either. If you want me to add more, the lightsaber with a guard that can be cut off is ridiculous. If there are tons of quick cut, can't see WTF is going on, WTH did I just watch type of scenes like in his other films, then it'll be more of a JJ Abrams film. There's already some evidence in the tiny trailer.

Personally, I'm getting tired of CGI. No matter how good it gets there is just something with real actors and models that CGI cannot replicate. CGI backgrounds are fine, but not characters or objects. Like in the Hobbit, the Pale Orc looks good, buy compared to the orcs that are guys in costumes he just looks fake. The model ships in the original triology lok a million times better than the CGI stuff in the trailer.

Here is another perfect example not fucking with something that worked in the past.

In the original 3 movies, and again in the "prequals" stormtroopers were nameless and faceless henchmen who's identities were not only pointless to the story, it kept the writers from doing more character development.

Now, or so it would appear those stormtroopers are going to have an identity and a name and we put an actual human face to the evil henchmen.

I have to agree. Part of the allure of the original trilogy was the mystery. The Force, how Anakin became Vader were left vague. Every point of explaining or clarifying these points lessened the story.

That being said, I like the trailer. It had more of a Empire Strikes Back feel than a prequel one.

I'm pretty sure CGI would make the Red Dwarf look a LOT better... But then we are talking about a ship model made out of a lampshade

For everything else, yes, models are MUCH better than CGI most of the time - although a well-done CGI explosion would have been better IMO than the same Klingon Bird of Prey being blown up clip being used 3 different times in the Star Trek movies.

Definitely a strong JJ Abrams feel to that trailer. He seems to be good at making things look pretty, as long as someone keeps him away from the lens flare button, but I have to wonder about the story line sometimes. Hollywood is desperately short of good writers these days.

I've long argued that KotOR is the quintessential "Star Wars" experience and tops all but possibly "Empire" in its greatness.
