SoF Sep 1977

SoF Mar 1979

SoF Apr 1987

They are in random order as I scan them as I get them in the mail.  This weekend I will start getting boxes of them by year and will scan them in chronological order to upload.

1st Thank you for this

2nd if you code them by year it shouldn't be an issue as they will sort themselves in anyone's file.  For example "SoF 1987-2" would be February 1987

3rd I hope you have an awesome scanning machine

1st Thank you for this  You're welcome.  I believe that knowledge should be shared.  I looked everywhere to buy digital copies and since I couldn't find any, I decided to make my own.

I do.  It's a Fujitsu S1500 and I have scanned in hundreds of old military pubs with it.

You're welcome.

These really need to be archived.  There is a lot of history chronicled in these that doesn't appear anywhere else.  I've been reading them as I scan them and many of the commentaries are almost prescient.

SoF Sep 1979

ETA - From this issue:

Further to the east, Rhodesia continues its own form of guerrilla war with casualties being released to the Press on a daily basis. Conditions within the operational areas - there are now four: Hurricane, Repulse, Thrasher and Tangent - have deteriorated somewhat during the past year, but the Rhodesian High Command has somehow managed to stay abreast of the problems.

But Mr. Ian Smith's problems are not only military. Following his acceptance of the concept of majority rule during the visit of former American Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger, most Rhodesians now accept that they are no longer fighting for the Rhodesian homeland, but rather for the means of handover to a black majority.

The issue now, basically, is whether the whites hand over power to black political moderates amenable to their presence, or to Marxist hardliners such as Robert Mugabe who ultimately sees Rhodesia - or Zimbabwe as it will be called - as a communist state invested with the task of continuing the black military revolution southwards.

First time I messed with dropbox, well worth it.

Skimming some of that makes me wish I had kept the issues I bought when I was younger, I recall the waco issue mostly.

Also makes me wonder what if anything they said about the bundy standoff.

Anyway, thanks for the thread as well.  I skimmed it for the pics and high lights so far.  I won't sit and read it properly if I keep wondering what else will get posted for pics and keep kicking myself for selling the fal parts kits I had around a decade ago or close to it.

Anyway, tagged thread back when it was just 2 pages and finally got back to it.  Will read it in the morning I expect.

Well, until morning is more like it.

113 more issues arrived today.  I'm now only missing 6-9 issues from 1975-1979 (they switched from quarterly to monthly) and 10 issues from 1980-1990.  I'll start scanning again later this week.

So not trying to derail the thread, but does anybody know a place to get Rhodie brushstroke shorts? The only place I've found is selling originals for like $400, I don't want to spend that much on shorts to work out in.

If I could find the material, I'd just make the shorts myself but you need to order at least 1000 meters of the stuff mininum

That cloth is not Rhodesian DPM.  I forget if it's Pakistani or some sort of Rhodesian-inspired pattern used commercially here in the U.S. for a time (I forget by who).

So they changed their minds?  Last I heard they had decided it was only going to be a one-time thing, to my disappointment.

From my understanding. A distant cousin or two went to Angola. But they're folks I don't know. For the most part we cut off the family in Cuba.

I hate to see history and information lost.  One of my hobbies is scanning and archiving old pubs and manuals.

I received another 76 issues this week and was able to scan in another couple dozen.  I will continue to upload them as I finish them.  I had to break down and get the Terabyte package at Dropbox as I was uploading so much stuff.

Another older one came in.  I'm slowly tracking down the ones that are missing from my collection.

Because it's got about the coolest fucking guns of all of the retro coldwar conflicts, and some of the gear used there continues to influence modern design.

The Rhodesian chest rig for instance.
