Used to be one based at Hendon Airport/Orlando Executive Airport that would fly over my house every so often. Made a wierd sound. View Quote Didn't Beechcraft try to buy all of those back? Supposedly, there are only a handful out there in the wild now. |

I got a lift in the basket off my ship and then back on about a week later from one of these. That was during the Mariel Boat Lift in 1980 |

That was during the Mariel Boat Lift in 1980 That's funny. I got the same ride, but just down to the ship, during one of our interdiction patrols. I was aboard the helicopter taking photos of 'suspect vessels' (read anything afloat). On the way back to the ship, the pilot asked me if would be willing to put on a demo for the crew. No way in hell I was gonna turn that down. We hovered, flew backwards, the cat landed the thing in the water and scooted around a bit. The whole time I was sitting in the door with a gunner's belt on. Last thing he did was lower me to the flight deck. Now, no big thing for the HSLD dudes, but for a geeky ass Radioman, it was tits as hell. |

Note the splinter vane: When I was a kid, i went to an airshow at Luke AFB and viewed this ship up close and personal. IIRC, Luke had more than one Mig-Killer on the flight line at the time. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/78/4e/19/784e19f981f1c0d1008ad44abbbf1534.jpg View Quote Back in 1975/76 when Moody transitioned from ATC to TAC they brought in the 1969 model F-4Es that had been stationed in Thailand ever since they were built. IIRC we had 5 or 6 planes with kills on them before they were all converted to F-4Gs. There were a couple of two stars and one 3 star bird. During their lives as F-4G models they still carried those stars. |

I saw a cool old movie today, WINGS OF THE NAVY (1939). Plenty of old aircraft porn, including the N3N seaplane, the PBY, the F3F, and a trainer I didn't recognize. The filming had a lot of actual training footage fromPensacola.
