Sara from Fleetwood Mac. Played at mom’s funeral.
The first time it came on the radio months afterwards while driving with my sisters, we couldn’t hold back our tears. I think music is the closest thing we have to time machines, serving as containers for our memories. |

Nearer my God to Thee ------- The Titanics Band played it as the ship was sinking. What must have gone thru those peoples minds knowing " this is it " and how they handled it knowing it's only a matter of time and they'll meet their maker!! The end is near!!

You might be surprised that a lifelong musician does not get emotional about songs except when they rock the shit out of me. No sadness, no melancholy, no suicide. I usually don't even know song words unless I'm interested in the music of it. Its the music first, then maybe words, but 'sad' songs are just junk to me. I'm just into the music.

My cousin sang Ava Maria in Latin throughout my grandmother's entire funeral. I equate it to about the same as a root canal without Novocain. And a very close friend sang Amazing Grace at my Grandfather's funeral. Either song will get me to leave. My grandmother has been dead for 33 years and my grandfather 13.

ONe more. I lost my father in 1978. I can't help but think about him when the leave start blowing. Especially when I am at the farm he and mom bought in 1962. That first Christmas without him. It was a long and cold fall and winter. He never got to see his grandkids nor his great grandkids.
